IBEW Local 1049 was proud to have both Team A and Team B representing our membership this weekend at the 55th Annual IBEW William Lindsay Softball Tournament at Baldwin Park.

Named in honor of former IBEW Local 25 Business Manager and Suffolk County Legislature Presiding Officer William “Bill” Lindsay, the tournament continues a great Long Island IBEW tradition of camaraderie, competition and brotherhood.

Special thanks to Assistant Business Manager Rick Fridell, Executive Board Member and Director of Safety and Training Bryan Hughes, and Membership Development Coordinator Brian Schellhorn for helping put our teams together.

And a special thanks to President Jim Cooper and the crew for firing up the grill and keeping everyone fed at Newbridge Road Park throughout the weekend.

Proud to see 1049 out on the field!

IBEW Local 1049 was represented at the 2026 New York State AFL-CIO Committee on Political Education (COPE) Convention in Albany.

Representing Local 1049 were Director of External Affairs & Communications Jerome Bost, Recording Secretary Anthony Scotto, and Union Stewards Nora Atcosta and Lisa Quinn.

The COPE Convention brings together union leaders and delegates from across New York State to help shape Labor’s political priorities, consider endorsements, and strengthen our collective voice on the issues that matter to working people.

Local 1049 remains committed to being at the table and representing the interests of our members wherever decisions are being made that impact their jobs, families, and futures.

IBEW Local 1049 advocating for our members and standing together with New York’s Labor Movement.

We at IBEW Local 1049 are deeply saddened by the loss of Robbie Sparks, who passed away on July 28, 2026. A true pioneer of civil rights for workers throughout the country, she was the founder and President Emeritus of the Electrical Workers Minority Caucus-National, which advocates for the rights and advancement of minority workers within the IBEW.

Her tireless work and dedication paved the way for thousands of our brothers and sisters to achieve the incredible success they have earned over the decades.

We will always remember the incredible impact Robbie had on the IBEW and the lives she touched.
