Just as the name implies, the vision for this event is for Missouri firefighters from across the state, to bring a team and compete in the first annual Missouri Fire Service BBQ Rib state championship! We have chosen two wonderful fire-service related organizations for our charities this year. They are the Firefighter Cancer Support Network and the Missouri Firefighter Museum project.
The Firefighter Cancer Support Network (FCSN) is a 501(c)(3) not for profit, whose mission is to help fire/EMS members and their families cope with cancer and to provide occupational-cancer awareness and prevention training nationwide. Since its inception in 2005, the FCSN has helped thousands of firefighters across the country, as they wager a war against a disease where occupationally, firefighters have a higher risk of contracting cancer than the general public. Carcinogens, chemicals, smoke and soot are part of a firefighters everyday life, a life many of them still wouldn’t change, even after understanding the dangers. You see, firefighting is a passion, it’s not just a job! The same kind of passion that resonates throughout the FCSN and its countless volunteers, who are standing side by side with our nation’s firefighters as they deal with their Cancer diagnosis.
The Missouri Firefighter Museum project has been a long time coming. The FireFighter Association of Missouri (FFAM) is the ‘mother organization’ and the statewide organizational membership holder. Under that ‘mother’ comes the Fire Fighters Historical preservation Foundation of Missouri. That Foundation is governed by a 15 person board. Under the Foundation is three arms: Memorial, Museum and Funeral Team. Each has their own financial need for upkeep, preservation and being built. No matter what the answer - this memorial and museum is YOURS! A place of honor, and preservation for the fire service of this state.
Our hope is that you will come out and support this event on Saturday, May 11, 2019. It will be at the Mid America Harley-Davidson store in Columbia, Mo. We will have some great BBQ, liquid refreshments, live music, a corn hole tournament, raffle prizes, and stuff for the kids to do. We are still looking for sponsors, vendors, competition teams, and volunteers, so if you’re interested, just use the “Message” button on this FB page or visit our Event Webpage to sign up. https://huntsdeer39.wixsite.com/missouribbqsmokeout
