The Jackson County Farm Bureau team was proud to serve more than 200 burgers as we celebrated National Beef Month and showed appreciation for the people and businesses that help make our community strong!

A huge thank you to our local member discount providers for supporting our members year-round, to our members for their continued support of Farm Bureau, and to our agency team for the outstanding collaboration and partnership that helps us serve Jackson County so well. We also thank Senator Bowser and Representative Ellis for joining us today and allowing us to visit with them. We love building positive relationships.

Events like this remind us how fortunate we are to live and work in a community built on agriculture, relationships, and neighbors helping neighbors. Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating Kansas beef and community connections! 🐄🍔🇺🇸

Applications are now being accepted for the 2026 Kansas Leopold Conservation Award.

The award honors ranchers, farmers and forestland owners who go above and beyond in their management of soil health, water quality and wildlife habitat on working land.

Sand County Foundation and national sponsor American Farmland Trust present Leopold Conservation Awards to private landowners in 28 states. In Kansas, the $10,000 award is presented with Kansas Association of Conservation Districts, Kansas Farm Bureau and the Ranchland Trust of Kansas.

Given in honor of renowned conservationist Aldo Leopold, the award recognizes landowners who inspire others to consider conservation opportunities on their land. In his influential 1949 book, “A Sand County Almanac,” Leopold advocated for “a land ethic,” an ethical relationship between people and the land they own and manage.

“The Leopold Conservation Award highlights farms and ranches that are strengthening their land today while protecting it for future generations because they know conservation isn’t a program, it’s a way of life,” said Joe Newland, Kansas Farm Bureau president. “I encourage any Farm Bureau member of Kansas interested in applying to reach out to KFB for assistance in completing the application.”

Award applications may be submitted on behalf of a landowner, or landowners may nominate themselves. The application form can be found at www.sandcountyfoundation.org/ApplyLCA.

The nomination deadline date is June 1.

Sand County Foundation inspires and empowers private landowners to ethically manage the natural resources in their care.

Nominations open for 2027 Farm Bureau Farm Dog of the Year
AFBF

Farmers are invited to submit nominations for the 2027 Farm Bureau Farm Dog of the Year contest, which comes with cash prizes and bragging rights. This is the ninth year of the contest, supported by Nestlé Purina PetCare, which celebrates farm dogs and the many ways they support farmers and ranchers.

The grand prize winner – Farm Bureau Farm Dog of the Year – will win a year’s worth of Purina Pro Plan dog food and $5,000 in prize money. The winner will be recognized at a Farm Dog of the Year award ceremony at the American Farm Bureau Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, in January 2027.

The 2027 Farm Dog of the Year will also be featured in a professionally produced video. The profile of 2026 Farm Dog of the Year Max can be viewed here. Since its inception, the contest has provided a link to the farm for pet-loving Americans who vote for their favorite farm dog online.

“Farm dogs are often important partners in our daily work as well as wonderful companions for farm families,” said AFBF President Zippy Duvall. “As we saw with our 2026 winner, Max, these loyal companions go above and beyond to look after both the land and the farm families they work alongside.”

Farm dog owners must be Farm Bureau members to enter their dogs in the competition. Not yet a Farm Bureau member but interested in nominating your farm dog? Visit fb.org/join to learn about becoming a member.

Eligibility guidelines and submission requirements are available here. Farm Dog of the Year nominations, which include written responses to questions, at least one still photo and a video clip (optional), must be received by July 11 for consideration. The Farm Bureau Farm Dog of the Year contest is sponsored by the American Farm Bureau Federation.

The People’s Choice Pup, a popular social media element of the Farm Dog of the Year competition, returns for 2027. Profiles of several dogs nominated for the contest will be shared beginning in September, with the public invited to vote. Bragging rights and a $2,500 cash prize from Purina will be awarded to the People’s Choice Pup.

Learning, leadership, and life-saving skills were on full display at the Ag & Water Festival hosted by Jackson County Soil Conservation! 🌾💧

Jackson County Farm Bureau’s education station was proud to partner with community leaders to help educate 3rd graders from across Jackson County. Director Kelly Gay and Ag Ambassador Jace Doyle shared important information about when and how to call 9-1-1, helping students gain confidence in emergency situations. 📞🚨

Safety advocate Joe Romans also led an engaging hands-on “Stop the Bleed” demonstration, teaching students practical skills that could one day help save a life. 🩹👏

A big thank you to everyone who helped make the day educational, interactive, and impactful for approximately 180 third grade students and community!
