On April 2, 2026 tthe Holt Lions Club had a fun meeting. Packed full of activities and chaos.

We had a busy night planned and last minute changes added to the activities. Most our our meetings run a a pretty regular pattern, but one of our guests had to leave early for another committment.

Lion Dowdy our 1st Vice President ran the meeting for his first time, President Kelly had to be at another event. Then we moved into having our Program immediately.

We started early before dinner because our other activities. Our DG Alteta Cozart started off doing the induction of two new members. First was new Lion Kimberly Brown and then Lenore Osburn. DG Aleta kept the inductions short and sweet and the new members were greeted by our tradition of having all members of the Club line up to introduce themselves and shake hands. Of course pictures were taken and then New Lion Kimberly was excused to attend another event.

Since dinner orders had been placed but no food had been served, of program speaker for the evening was OK to start her program.

Micki O'Neal from the Inghan ISD (Intermediate School District) started her program of what the Ingham ISD is, how long it's been doing it and what the Special Election being held is about. The election asks for a millage to pay for new building and other items. We learned a lot and found out the need for replacing the Beekmen Center Building. The Beekmen Center is a special education school that serves Ingham County, that includes the Lansing School District and several others in the mid-michigan area. You can look up the Ingham ISD at ( https://www.inghamisd.org/ ).

Micki did a great job of explain a complex situation and answering questions in a short time. She even stuck around for the rest of our meeting. She even ended up winning one of the two 50/50 drawings at the end of the night. She was very gracious when she donated her winnings back to the Club.

The pictures don't really show how lively the meeting got at some times.

Next general Club meeting is May 7, 2026 starting at 6:00 PM for social time and Dinner at 6:30 PM, if you are interested Lions you are welcome to attend.

Halloween In the Park - 2025
Again this year at Valhalla Park, on October 26, 2025, it turned out to be a great day. Cool but not cold. All the sunshine you could get for this time of year.

The Delhi Township Parks and Recreation managed the affair with help from the Fire Department and lot of volunteers manning all the booths.

Enjoy the photos,

The Holt Lions had their annual Summer Picnic on July 17th, this year at Valhalla Park in Holt. Our normal site was closed because of construction at the Township Fire Department.

It was a very pleasant evening with a break in the heat from the day before. We got together and had a fun evening. There were box lunches from the Delhi Cafe Family Restaurant and baklava for dessert.

We did a little business, Lion Chris Kloecker was presented his Melvin Jones Fellowship award by Lion Ray Robins, PDG. Ray did explain that it was announced at the last meeting in June but the plaque didn't show up till the very next day.

Lots of talk during the meeting about all our summer and fall plans. Stories of the trips we have taken and want to take. All the things good friends talk about to each other.

The Holt Lions Club have regular meetings, the first Thursday of every month, except July, at the Delhi Delhi Cafe Family Restaurant starting at 6:00 PM and anyone interested in Lions what we do and stand for can attend.

On Wednesday, July 16, 2025, the Holt Farmers Market caught a break and had good weather for the Holt Farmers Market, Food Frenzy night. It was hot and muggy but it didn't get rained out or rained on like the last two times. The Holt Lions were there to help out with cleaning up tables and taking care of trash. Not glamorous work but something that needs to get done. We reduce the work load on the Farmers Market Staff and get seen by the public.

The were a couple of things that we noticed as well. There is a Kids area in the back corner that had a "bouncy house" and a gentleman making balloon animals. The early entertainment was Taylor Taylor, a singer/song writer that performed solo for over an hour. She was sweet, she had performed for the Lions Club Christmas party several years ago.

The evening entertainment was "The Collective" playing old Rock and Roll and funky music from the 60's and 70's.

We hope we will see all Lions and the public to see you next time on August 13th, starting at 4:00 PM going till 8:00 PM.

Last night, June 19, 2025 was an interesting night for the Holt Lions installation of Officers meeting.
I apologize right now, some of my photos didn't come out well, very grainy and dark. I had set the camera up for taking high depth of field and didn't reset it when the meeting started. Result is many pictures didn't come out right. But some pictures are better then none.

We started off the night with two surprise guests. In walked Lion Wendy Burns, Executive Director of the Lions of Michigan and Lion Terri Huffman, current Council Chair of the MD11 Council of Governors, a couple of very welcome guest to our humble meeting.
Lion Ray made introductions of guests in a short story of each about some of his favorite Lions with us. Lion Karen Routson, PDG of cousin Lion from Mason, Ray told the club how she had move up to 1st VDG when he needed her. Lion Wendy how she had been selected as the Lions Executive Secretary the year he was a Governor and the great job she has done since. Lion Terri Huffman when she was Governor recognized what Lion Ray was doing at MD11 Council meetings at got the Governors to help with the costs of doing that function.

As the Meeting started Lion Terri asked if we had a Tail Twister present and that she asked that he fine Lion Ray, he had been at the State Convention but left early and Wasn't at the Saturday Banquet when she need a microphone for our speaker. So he got called up and fined $1.00. But then she said since he was already up she could do something she wanted to do at the Lions State Convention. She presented Lion Ray with a Progressive Melvin Jones Award for his service to the Lions of Michigan while he has been the MD11 IT Committee Chair. Ray was overwhelmed and surprised.

The meeting moved onto Lion Ray as this year's Club President giving out a couple of awards. He had two equally import awards and had to have a coin flip on which one to give out first.
First, he had to tell Lion Chris Kloecker he couldn't use the camera to take pictures of him getting the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award from the Holt Lions Club. Lion Chris was surprised and said he hadn't even thought about this before.

Second, Lion Ray announced that we were giving out a recognition that we haven't done in a while. The Holt Lion of the Year was given to Lion Ken O'Hara, our Club Treasurer and Committee Chair of our Texas Hold'em events. Lion Ken is a quiet hard worker who makes sure everything get done and gets done right. In addition to that we gave Lion Ken the Lions of Michigan Foundation. john s Noel Fellowship Award. Congratulations lion Ken!

Finally we got to the mail event and one of our favorite guests, PDG Karen Routson did the installation of Officers, short version. It didn't take long, most of our officers have done this before and know when to say yes.

Last we transferred the Club and Gavel to our incoming club President Kelly Bean.

The night ended with our 50/50 drawing queen winning again.

On Thursday, June 5, 2025 the Holt Lions Club welcomed staff and Varsity Coaches and one Senior Varsity Athlete from each sport to the Holt Lions Club Sports Night Banquet. For 52 years the Holt Lions has hosted this event so the coaches could recognize one senior for being the unsung hero of the team. They don't have to be the best player, scorer or fastest. They are recognized for contributing to the team and the sport they are part of. Several coaches during the evening agreed to the statement that has been made before, this is the highest level award that a Holt Coach can give to the athlete.

Superintendent of Schools David Hornack spoke about the work of the coach and the students to be successful. Athletics Director Chris Bishop carried on and then had the coaches start introducing their students. There were 25 students out of 27 sports recognized during the evening, 2 were unable to attend and 1 sport had no senior athletics.

It was a great night as always for the Holt Lions and all the visitor we had. We didn't get pictures of all the students this year. But we do have a good sampling, enjoy!

On Thursday. April 3, 2025, the Holt Lions Club held it regular Club meeting. By the time the meeting started we had 27 & 1/4 people attending. We had several guests and more regular members. After announcements and dinner we started the induction ceremony for our newest (but one of our longest serving) members. We officially inducted Lion Sharon Foust as a new Lions Club member. Lion Sharon was involved with our Club while her husband Dick was a Lion and her daughter Kristin still is. Lion Sharon had her daughter Lion Kristen Butler, her granddaughter Tisha, her son-in-law Michael and the youngest family member Elliot, just 2 1/2 weeks old.

Welcoming her into Lions, Lion Ray Robins, PDG performed the short induction ceremony. Lion Dick was Lion Ray's sponsor into the Holt Club. After the induction there was the tradition of all Club members going up to the new member and shaking hands. That took a little longer than normal, she was greeted by several members who have known her 30+ years.

Next we had a program from a group, Essential Blessings. They are a 501(c)3 organization, they provide services to members of the Homeless community in the Lansing area. Unfortunately, the need for their services has increased over the last 5 years. The lead presenter Michelle told us how her group got started and what they do.

They do several services for the homeless. Providing meals, some clothing and many other things. Michelle Gondal was the main presenter. More information about Essential Blessing can be found on it's website at https://essentialblessings.net/. They can use donations, money and volunteers.

At the end of the meeting we had the 50/50 drawing and final good night.

The Holt Lions Club has it's regular meeting on the first Thursday of of each month, except for July, at the Delhi Café , 4625 Willoughby Rd, Holt, MI, starting at 6:00 PM dinner at 6:30 PM. Visitors are welcome, come join us and see what Lions Clubs are all about.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all!!! The Holt Lions had our annual Christmas Party early in December. We all enjoyed the evening. The Delhi Cafe dressed up the place and we enjoyed the evening with food, friendship and a great UGLY Christmas Sweater contest. Boy some of them were ugly. The vote was secret and there is a wide range of tastes involved. The first three winners even got medals.

WE HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Halloween In The Park, October 27, 2024! The annual event was held at Valhalla Park because of construction going on at the Fire Station next to Veterans Memorial Park. Maybe a lot of people didn't know about the change of location.

But it was a great day, warm and sunny. The kids , parents and friends all had a good time. The Valhalla Park has the advantage of playgrounds and space to just relax.

See some of the pictures about the event .

Now we just do it again next year.
