On the evening of Wednesday, August 12, 2026, the Holt Farmers Market held it monthly Food Frenzy event. A collection of Food Trucks and other vendors show up at the Holt Farmers Market on Cedar st in Holt. Starting a 4:00 PM they all provided great food, it continued untill closing at 8:00 PM. Everyone in Holt and the surrounding areas are invited to attend. The choices of what to eat are amazing! The newest addition to the menu was a trucks was one that features Maine Lobsters. The of course there is almost an endless choice of Pizza, Hamburgers fresh off a grill, BBQ of several different kinds, styles and from different trucks. There is also fresh squeezed lemondade, shaved ice drinks, ice cream from top quality soures by vendors that are long time Food Frenzy vendors.

Last nights event was a great success, by the Farmers Market staff the estimated and attendance of at least 1300 people, families, couples, lots of people who made it a great event.

On top of that the Farmers Market provides music at every event. A great 4 piece band played rock, country and a lot of easy listening 60 -70's tunes. The kept the place packed for the whole evening.

The Holt Lions who attend the event several year ago noticed how much the staff of the Farmers had to do to make it all work and how thin they were stretched. We made the offer to help with some of our Lions doing some of the simple but necessary thing to make the event work. We now have a service project every summer simply called Food Frenzy, we have a small group of Lions work the first two hour shift and a larger group work the closing shift. We buss tables to and empty trash cans to revieve the Farmers Market staff for helping the things, our second shift does that as well as the picking up chairs, and tables putting them on carts and getting them stored. That part requires as many helping hands as possible.

Last nights second shift crew was only 4 Lions, we could use more hand to make the work go faster.

The Holt Lions Club had a quiet night at it's August 6th meeting. Except for the change in scheduling programs, rescheduling the picnic and one emotional event.

Because of not having the Holt Lions July Summer picnic in the park because it was too much summer, the hot spell cancelled many outdoor activities. Therefore schedules and plans change. Our Summer Picnic will now be held in September meeting night, September 3rd. AND since our original program was to be about the new Delhi Fire Station, someone came up with the thought, why don't we have a live tour of the Fires Station after the Picnic is over. Then we just walk across the parking lot from Veterans Memorial Part to the new Fire Station since they are right next to each other, Our 1st Vice President, Lion Karon rearranged the program and now we are going to see the new Fire Station on September 3rd. So no program at the August 6th meeting.

We made up for it with fun conversations and news about things we and our families were doing. Then Lion Ray Robins had something he wanted to do.

Lion Ray got up and asked Lion Stuart Goodrich to come up and join him at the front of the room. Lion Ray then told everyone a long story in a short of time as possible. Lion Stuart is a Charter member of our Club, a Past District Governor, a Melvin Jones Fellow, an S A Dodge award winner, a member of the Lions of Michigan Hall of Fame and pretty much received every award and recognition Lions can give for his service and Leadership. Lion Ray then told everyone what we, the Holt Lions Club do to give out a Melvin Jones Fellowship. We have some pretty high standards. We have 19 members of the Holt Club that are currently members and Melvin Jones Fellows. We as a Club do not give out progressive Melvin Jones Fellows awards. Once someone from the Club has been recognized that is enough. With that Lion Ray was happy to present Lion Sturt with his first Progressive Melvin Jones Fellowships awards. He assured Stuart that the award was not from the Club, but he couldn't think of any other way to honor his mentor in Lionism. Stuart said he was honored and suprised and appreciated the recognition. Stuart's wife Kathleen wasn't there so Lion Ray pinned Stuart. See photos of meeting.

After that the 50/50 drawing had three winners. all sitting at he same table. right next to each other. Of course Lion Denise was one of the winners as usual.

Our last meeting of the Lions year, June 18th and we had a few nice things happen.

Lion Karen Routson, PDG did the installation of officers again. Third or fourth time I think.

New Board was installed.

We awarded two Melvin Jones Fellowship Awards. Lion Betty Smith recieved hers first and was quite surprised. Lion Randy Maiville was second and was very grateful as well. Both deserved the recognition, when the MJF Committee voted almost everyone voted for both.

The big suprise of the night is that Lion Deb Rosebush, has recently moved to south Lansing expressed a desire to join our Club. With good luck and Lions that knew how the system works we got her transfered and she is now A Holt Lions Club member. Welcome Deb and welcome aboard.

On May 7, 2026, Delhi Township DDA Director visited our Club and updated us on the activities they have done and many of the activities they are working on. Howard in his low key style told us about future plans for the Farmers Market, a possible new housing developement and some other ideas that may be delevoped for the Delhi/Holt Community. At the end of the meeting, Holt Lion Phil Dawdy, 1st Vice President of the Holt Lions presented him with a Holt Lions Club Banner, signifing our appreciation of his work that helps community and therefore the Lions Club.

At the end of the meeting Lion Stuart was the first winner of our 50/50 drawing. He said it was about time!

On April 2, 2026 tthe Holt Lions Club had a fun meeting. Packed full of activities and chaos.

We had a busy night planned and last minute changes added to the activities. Most our our meetings run a a pretty regular pattern, but one of our guests had to leave early for another committment.

Lion Dowdy our 1st Vice President ran the meeting for his first time, President Kelly had to be at another event. Then we moved into having our Program immediately.

We started early before dinner because our other activities. Our DG Alteta Cozart started off doing the induction of two new members. First was new Lion Kimberly Brown and then Lenore Osburn. DG Aleta kept the inductions short and sweet and the new members were greeted by our tradition of having all members of the Club line up to introduce themselves and shake hands. Of course pictures were taken and then New Lion Kimberly was excused to attend another event.

Since dinner orders had been placed but no food had been served, of program speaker for the evening was OK to start her program.

Micki O'Neal from the Inghan ISD (Intermediate School District) started her program of what the Ingham ISD is, how long it's been doing it and what the Special Election being held is about. The election asks for a millage to pay for new building and other items. We learned a lot and found out the need for replacing the Beekmen Center Building. The Beekmen Center is a special education school that serves Ingham County, that includes the Lansing School District and several others in the mid-michigan area. Micki did a great job of explain a complex situation and answering questions in a short time. She even stuck around for the rest of our meeting. She even ended up winning one of the two 50/50 drawings at the end of the night. She was very gracious when she donated her winnings back to the Club.

The pictures don't really show how lively the meeting got at some times.

Next general Club meeting is May 7, 2026 starting at 6:00 PM for social time and Dinner at 6:30 PM, if you are interested Lions you are welcome to attend.
