Dear Toastmasters,
For many of us, Toastmasters has been a life-changing experience. We know the value of Toastmasters because we have experienced its impact in our own lives. That is why decisions that affect our members are never taken lightly.
After careful consideration, the Board of Directors approved the first membership dues increase in three years. Effective August 3, 2026, semiannual membership dues will increase to $72 USD. Members who renew before August 3, 2026, will continue to pay the current membership dues rate of $60 USD. We encourage you to watch this recent Board discussion, which highlights some of the factors we considered.
We recognize that this decision will impact our members, clubs, and Districts at a time when many people continue to face financial pressures. We also understand that this increase will be felt differently by members around the world due to currency exchange rates and local tax regulations. That is precisely why the Board approached this decision with great care.
Before making this decision, the Board asked a simple question: Have we done everything we reasonably can before increasing dues?
Three principles guided our discussions:
Reduce costs where we can
Use existing resources wisely
Increase dues only when necessary
The Board has a responsibility to ensure the long-term financial sustainability of Toastmasters International. That means making decisions that balance the financial realities faced by our members today with the need to keep the organization strong for future generations.
Like organizations around the world, Toastmasters faces rising technology costs, increased cybersecurity requirements, greater regulatory and compliance obligations, and the growing costs of supporting a global membership across more than 140 countries.
Consistent with our first principle, we took significant steps to manage expenses responsibly. We reduced operating costs, streamlined staffing at World Headquarters, and made difficult decisions about programs and services.
We also implemented a global District Alignment initiative. By creating fewer Districts with more clubs, we have strengthened the financial viability of many Districts while also increasing their leadership pipeline. These changes were not easy, but they position our Districts for greater long-term sustainability and success.
Consistent with our second principle, we looked beyond membership dues to fund important initiatives. The Board approved the use of the Smedley Fund to support the continued development of the education program, reducing the amount that must be funded through membership dues.
The decisions we make today will shape the Toastmasters that future generations inherit. Our responsibility is not simply to preserve this organization, but to strengthen it—to ensure that it continues transforming lives, developing leaders, and building communities around the world for decades to come.
