#ReasonstoSpeak is more than just a project to me, but an urgent desire to help as many individuals as I can reach by providing them the information and resources available to them as survivors or those currently living in a vulnerable situation. Childhood sexual abuse has been an ongoing plague that has affected more people than we often would like to acknowledge. My campaign may be small at present but it is a stepping stone in what I hope to be the first of many fairs, talks, & travels on this topic. Childhood sexual abuse is never fun or comfortable and in most cases is shrouded by a sense of shame and embarrassment which perpetuates the desire to keep things quiet. This desire to handle things "delicately" has the terrible consequence of helping predators live full, free lives while those affected by them suffer in silence. Coming out to family and friends as someone who dealt with this type of abuse is often a terrifying ordeal that receives a mixed bag of emotions, to say the least. Fear alone set aside, this type of trauma has lasting consequences for everyone involved. Abuse is cyclical but we CAN break the cycle. This fair's goal is to teach everyone how much power they DO have to exercise. Learn the signs, care to look deeper, ask questions, be an advocate! This campaign strives to help as many individuals as possible by giving control back to them through learning & utilizing the tools & free resources available to them. The #ReasonstoSpeak idea stems from so many people asking the same number one question to survivors once they do come out, "Why didn't you speak up sooner?" Survivors & advocates alike all have their #ReasonstoSpeak. We must listen & learn to help, a child's life may very well depend on it.
