Announcement*: Lifesaving World Championships
The United States Lifesaving Association (USLA), based on commitments from current national team staff, potential athletes, and assurances from the host, will send a United States Lifesaving National Open Team to compete against the world’s best at the 2022 Lifesaving World Championships in Italy. The decision to withdraw was not made lightly nor in haste; and the decision to attend is made with the knowledge that the health risks to the athletes is minimal compared to their intense determination to compete against the best the world has to offer.
The USLA admires the important role lifesaving sport plays in bringing together diverse ethnic and cultural communities. The opportunity to stand on surf lifesaving’s greatest athletic stage and race, is only matched by the desire to share in the camaraderie and spirit of heroic surf lifesaving sports-men & women.
Team selection will take place this week at the Jersey Mike's USLA National Championships being held on beautiful Hermosa Beach in California.
While the USLA is not sponsoring a Youth Team for LWC 2022, U19 competitors are eligible to gain international experience with their club teams competing in the ILS sanctioned Rescue World Cup.
*Due to an abundance of caution surrounding COVID-19, a decision was made earlier this summer to not send a team to Italy. This post is intended to address both the past decision to withdraw and the current decision to compete.
