School Starts Tomorrow — A Neighborhood Heads-Up

Tomorrow, August 10, marks the first day of school for Hollywood Central Prep, First Presbyterian Learning Centers, and Hollywood Academy of Arts and Science. With the start of the school year comes a noticeable increase in traffic as families navigate morning drop-off and afternoon pickup.

To help everyone plan ahead and minimize the frustration that can come with increased traffic, please allow yourself some extra time and expect slower-than-usual travel on and around:

• Harrison Street
• Van Buren Street
• Monroe Street
• Madison Street
• U.S. 1
• 16th Avenue
• 17th Avenue

The busiest periods will generally be 7–9 a.m. and 2–4 p.m., although traffic patterns may vary as families settle into their new routines.

A few things to keep in mind:

• Watch for children and families walking or biking, particularly near school routes and crossings.
• Use extra caution when exiting alleyways and driveways, where visibility can be limited.
• Expect sudden stops, turning vehicles, and unexpected crossings as parents navigate drop-off and pickup.
• Please don’t block intersections, crosswalks, driveways, or alleyways, even when traffic is backed up.
• Be patient around school entrances and pickup areas.
• If your route is flexible, consider avoiding the busiest streets during peak school hours.

Most importantly, give yourself extra time and a little extra patience. The first few days are likely to be the most challenging as families figure out new schedules and routines. Traffic should become more predictable as everyone settles into the school year.

We know increased traffic can be frustrating, especially when it affects our daily routines. A little advance planning, patience, and awareness can go a long way toward keeping things moving safely and making the transition easier for everyone.

As always, let’s look out for one another and be kind, understanding, and generous with our neighbors.

Wishing all of our students, families, teachers, and neighbors a safe and wonderful first day of school!
