Foundation for a Child's Trust (FACT) examines and implements the strategies that advance the well-being of children whose families are under the supervision of a judge and who have experienced trauma, grief, or loss. A Guardian Ad Litem (GAL) is appointed by a judge to conduct an investigation into and make recommendations regarding a child’s best interests. A GAL does not act as an attorney, cou

nselor, therapist, or parent to the child. GALs provide the Court with increased insight into the circumstances of the child, including what the child wishes, so that the judge can make better-informed decisions. The GAL also works with the child’s parents, caregivers, teachers, therapists and community resources to assess needed support and services. FACT strengthens the GAL’s ability to advocate for the child; document critical aspects of the child’s experience; mentor the child; connect the child to the people, organizations, and resources that will improve their well-being; and collaborate with all of those seeking to help the child. The Therapist and Guardian Intervention Team (TAG-IT), a collaboration between FACT and NOVA, brings together Guardians ad Litem and mental health professionals to prevent further trauma and to heal the trauma that has already occurred.
