As thousands of Southern Baptists gather in Orlando for the Southern Baptist Convention Annual Meeting, a Baptist advocacy group has placed a billboard near the event declaring, “God calls women to pastor, preach and minister.”

The display was organized by Baptist Women in Ministry and cites Matthew 28:8 and Acts 2:17-18. The group says the billboard is intended to encourage women who feel called to ministry as Southern Baptists consider a proposed constitutional amendment that would further restrict women from serving in pastoral roles.

Supporters of the amendment argue it is necessary to uphold biblical standards for church leadership, while opponents believe it could limit ministry opportunities for women and affect local church autonomy.

The debate comes as Southern Baptists prepare to discuss the proposal during this year’s annual meeting in Orlando.
