Thank You, Hollywood
Twenty-six years ago, I took my first oath of office. I never imagined that what began as a desire to give back to the community that had already given me so much would become the privilege of serving the people of Hollywood for more than a quarter century.
When I moved to Hollywood 40 years ago, I found more than a city, I found a community. It became the place where Donna and I built our lives together, raised our daughter Ciara, grew our business, and formed friendships that will last a lifetime. Those experiences shaped my belief that public service is about leaving your community better than you found it.
During my 14 years on the City Commission, we accomplished so much together. We expanded emergency medical service to the west side with the addition of Rescue 245, rebuilt Fire Station 45, invested in parks, sidewalks, infrastructure, public safety, and neighborhood improvements, and created new opportunities for residents to connect through community events. We also tackled long-term challenges that will benefit Hollywood for generations to come.
None of these accomplishments belong to one person. They reflect the dedication of City employees, volunteers, neighborhood leaders, my fellow elected officials, and residents who cared enough to get involved. Progress has always been a team effort.
As my time on the City Commission comes to an end because of term limits, my commitment to Hollywood does not. I may be leaving elected office, but I'll never stop caring about the future of the city that has given so much to me and my family.
More than 40 years ago, Hollywood became my home. For the past 26 years, serving that home has been the greatest honor of my life. A principle I first learned as a young Jaycee Greater Hollywood Junior Chamber- Jaycees has guided me every step of the way: "Service to Humanity is the Best Work of Life." Thank you for allowing me to live those words every day. It has truly been the privilege of a lifetime.
