On Wednesday, August 20, 2026, Southeast Florida Clean Cities Coalition staff joined the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority’s (SFRTA) Planning Technical Advisory Committee (PTAC) sponsored site visit hosted by Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW). 🚌⚡
Developed as part of the Strategic Miami Area Rapid Transit (SMART) Program, Metro Express is Miami-Dade county's first-ever all-electric Bus Rapid Transit service - a massive step forward in building a cleaner, modern, and connected future for Miami-Dade County. 🌴💚

South Florida Regional Transportation Authority’s (SFRTA) Planning Technical Advisory Committee (PTAC) sponsored a site visit hosted by Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW).

The visit provided a firsthand opportunity to experience the Metro Express Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service operating along the South Dade TransitWay, traveling from Dadeland South Metrorail Station to the SW 168 Street Park & Ride Station.

The visit highlighted the role of high-capacity transit investments in enhancing multimodal mobility, expanding transportation choices, improving access to jobs, education, healthcare, and other essential destinations, strengthening regional connectivity.

As South Miami-Dade continues to grow, premium transit services such as the Metro Express BRT support regional goals related to mobility, accessibility, reliability, safety, and economic opportunity. The event also underscored the importance of interagency collaboration and coordinated transportation planning in advancing a more connected, efficient, and resilient transportation system.

Today’s EV & Battery Energy Storage Systems Incident Response Training offered a practical look at the evolving hazards first and second responders are facing in the field.

Led by instructors James Russo, Fire Chief, Hollywood, FL (Ret.); Oscar Rodriguez, Battalion Chief, Margate, FL; and Doug LeValley, DC, Seminole Tribe / Fort Lauderdale (Ret.), the training covered EV, BESS, and photovoltaic incident response, parking garage and charging station hazards, firefighting tool capabilities, reporting requirements, tactical updates, recent burn study findings, updated case studies, and more.

The Southeast Florida Clean Cities Coalition is collecting data for the 2025 Annual Report as part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s U.S. Department of Energy Clean Cities program.

This report documents regional progress in alternative fuels and advanced vehicle technologies and helps quantify emissions reductions across Southeast Florida.

Stakeholders are asked to complete the reporting template with fleet and fuel data for the 2025 calendar year, including vehicle types, fuel usage, and vehicle miles traveled.
