Today, we’re sharing our official statement on the five-year extension of the TRICARE Childbirth and Breastfeeding Support Demonstration (CBSD), which will run through December 31, 2031.
We welcome this extension, but we’re calling for more. Military families deserve doula and lactation support no matter where they give birth, including at Military Treatment Facilities. Providers deserve fair compensation. And the program’s certification requirements must reflect the diversity of the communities it serves.
The DoD is accepting public comments through May 11, 2026. Your voice matters. Link to our full comment toolkit: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dRvsoylqfOSxmHMvJR-7QRTsKdyJjJCY/view?usp=sharing

⏰ The clock is ticking - military families have until May 11 to weigh in on a program that covers doulas and lactation support for TRICARE beneficiaries.
The Childbirth & Breastfeeding Support Demonstration has been extended through 2031, and the DoD is accepting public comments right now. That means this is a rare opportunity to push for real improvements, including coverage at Military Treatment Facilities, fair pay for providers, and a more diverse provider workforce.
We made it easy. Swipe for the full breakdown, then head to the link below for our comment toolkit with sample language you can use or personalize.

MILITARY MOMS | The ongoing conflict in the Middle East is squeezing some expectant mothers in the Kaiserslautern Military Community and beyond out of the labor and delivery ward at the largest Defense Department hospital overseas.

Social media forums abounded with requests for advice stemming from a screenshot of a memo saying that Landstuhl Regional Medical Center’s services for labor and delivery were suspended until further notice.
