This is the season we think of Christmas cheer, food, fun, gifts, and bountiful blessings. We see images of bright eyed children opening that special gift that brings shrieks of joy and tables laden with delicious food.
Unfortunately, that is not the scene in many homes as families struggle for day to day necessities.
There are many wonderful organizations both locally and nationally that help make the holidays brighter. However, as big and wonderful these organizations are, there are children and families that slip through the cracks and are left out.
There are numerous reasons for this; some families are just not aware of the services; sometimes they miss the deadline to qualify to receive help and many times it is because the family has just been added to the ranks of being a needy family. Often times they are embarrassed or ashamed to ask for help.
We reach out to those in need in our community every day of the year, whether it be families who have a home to live in or those who have lost their homes and have no place to live
A report in the Associated Press dated November 30, 2012, from the CA State Attorney General’s office states that more than one-half of California donations are lost to administration and overhead. I want to assure you that this is a total volunteer outreach with 100% of your contribution going directly to provide for those in need.We have no paid employees. We receive no funding from any Government agency,so your tax deductible donations are greatly needed and appreciated.
According to the latest HUD Census, there are nearly 600 homeless people in San Benito County. We see many of these people at “My Father’s House” which is a drop-in center for showers, clean clothing and food.
We need funds to purchase these basic necessities to protect people from the rain and the cold.
1. You can sponsor one homeless person for $40.00 per month or $480 annual contribution which will provide daily showers, towel, clean clothing and hot food, as well as food to go, access to internet, phone and mail delivery.
2. Hotel Vouchers to provide temporary housing while we find a more permanent solution for many who are sick, families with children and homeless Vets and senior citizens
3. To purchase train or bus tickets to send folks to recovery programs; to re-connect with family or move out of the area. To date, we have helped more than 125 permanently off the streets.
4. Money for gas vouchers for those who live in their automobiles.
5. Warm jackets and rain gear, shoes. socks, gloves, hats and scarves
6. Tents, sleeping bags, tarps, foldable camp tables or chairs, Porta-potties with disposable bags, LED solar lighting suitable for inside tent, Propane camp stoves, Garbage Bags and other camping supplies.
Thank you so very much for your generosity.
