Saturday, the Hollis Junior Firefighters had the honor of visiting Boston, where they experienced an unforgettable and educational day immersed in the rich history and traditions of the fire service.
Our day began with a tour of the Boston Fire Museum, where the dedicated and knowledgeable museum staff shared their time and stories with us. From there, we were fortunate to visit several active firehouses, including Engine 33/Ladder 15 and “The Big House” – Engine 10, Tower Ladder 3, and Rescue 1. These visits gave our Junior Firefighters valuable insight into the operations of one of the busiest fire departments in the country.
We also paused to pay our respects at the Vendome Memorial, which honors the nine Boston firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice in 1972 when the building they were operating in tragically collapsed. Their bravery and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
Our group also visited the Cocoanut Grove Memorial Site, where we learned about the devastating 1942 nightclub fire that claimed the lives of 492 people and led to significant changes in fire safety codes across the nation.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the members of the Boston Fire Museum and the Boston Fire Department for their hospitality, knowledge, and continued service. The Hollis Junior Firefighters had an incredible day—one filled with meaningful lessons, inspiration, and a deeper appreciation for the fire service.
Thank you for welcoming us and for helping shape the next generation of firefighters.
