October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, which is a good opportunity to talk about the dogs who do not finish our program.

Not every rescue we bring in turns out to be suited to service work. Some are too sensitive to busy public spaces, some have a medical issue that surfaces during training, and some are simply happier as pets. None of that is considered failure. It just means they belong in a family instead of a working harness.

Those dogs come to us socialized, worked with daily, and thoroughly loved by a lot of people, which tends to make them wonderful companions.

You can start an adoption application at operationdeltadog.org/adoption-application, and our team is always glad to talk through whether a particular dog is a good fit for your household.

Our Care & Boarding Center is coming to life! 💙 A huge thank you to Tad Brand and 15 fellow Eagle Scouts from Troops 127, 163, and 405, who dedicated nearly 50 hours to assembling 18 kennels and our new wash tub! Their impact will be felt by the dogs and veterans who come through our doors for years to come. Thank you, Tad and team, for being part of our mission!

As we get closer to welcoming dogs into the new center, we want to make their new space as comfortable and welcoming as possible. We are hoping to add Kuranda beds to the kennels, and any support in helping us reach that goal would mean so much to us and the dogs in our care.

Beds donated through our ShelterBeds page include free shipping and are delivered directly to us! If you would like to donate a bed, please click the link below. Whether you’re able to donate or simply share this post, thank you for helping us create a special place for the dogs who will soon call our Care & Boarding Center home.
