September is Su***de Prevention Month.
At Operation Renewed Freedom, this month is deeply personal.
Two members of our Board have had immediate family members die by su***de—one almost three decades ago, and one whose loss will mark three years this December.
Different years. Different families. The same truth: su***de loss does not simply disappear with time.
It changes families. It leaves questions that may never be answered. And it reminds us why connection, community, and the willingness to notice when someone is struggling matter so much.
Our work with veterans and their families is rooted in creating a place where people can connect without judgment, where they don’t have to explain everything they carry, and where asking for support is understood as strength.
This September, we remember those who died by su***de. We stand beside the families and friends who continue to carry their absence. And we recommit ourselves to helping build a community where no one feels they have to carry their burdens alone.
Connection is strength.
Support is here.
Hope is real.
If you or someone you know is in crisis, call or text 988. Veterans and service members can call 988 and press 1, or text 838255 for the Veterans Crisis Line.
