May is always a busy month for area trainings. They try to get trainings in before triple digits hit.

We had a member travel to Collin College Public Safety Training Center in McKinney, TX for live fire engine track performing hose deployment and charged hose line advancement.

Another member traveled to the Oklahoma City Fire Training Center for live fire engine track performing advancing a charged line through a structure and up to a second story.

Holliday Fire Department hosted a live fire training event with several area departments participating. They performed charged hose line advancement through a structure and fire extinguishment.

Two more members went back to the Oklahoma City Fire Training Center for a truck track performing search, VES and ladders.

Thank you to all that were able to participate in these trainings.

Two of our firewomen participated in training yesterday at OKC Fire Department Training Center. It was a hot day but they bunked out and worked on ladders, search, VES and FF survival techniques.

We're looking for an individual, or a business, who could help us get our 2006 AM General HMMWV fixed. The steering box is broken and we're having a difficult time finding a replacement or getting it repaired if possible. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Now is the time to prepare and develop a plan for storm season.

Create a family emergency plan:
Identify a Safe Place: The safest place is a basement or a storm cellar. If you don't have one, choose a small, windowless interior room, closet, or hallway on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.

Prepare an Emergency Kit: Assemble a kit with essentials like water, non-perishable food, a first-aid kit, and a flashlight.

Stay Informed: Know the difference between a Tornado Watch and a Tornado Warning. Sign up for your community's warning system. Archer County has joined with Hyper Reach. Emergency messages can be sent directly to your phone. Link in the comments.
Holliday has invested in three new storm sirens. Tornado siren will cycle 10 seconds on and 3 second off for 7 minutes.

Shelter Location: Send your storm shelter location to your local emergency responders. They can use this to locate you in case you become trapped. Link in the comments.

During a Tornado:
Go to Safety Immediately. Move to your designated safe location as soon as a warning is issued. Do not wait to see the tornado.
Avoid Windows and Large Rooms: Stay away from windows, doors, and outside walls. Avoid large-span rooms like gymnasiums or auditoriums, as their roofs are less stable.

After a Tornado:
Beware of Hazards: Stay clear of fallen power lines, broken utility poles, and gas leaks. Do not enter damaged buildings until they have been declared safe by authorities.
Communicate Wisely: Use text messaging or social media to communicate with family and friends, saving phone calls for emergencies.
