Tyson's Place Animal Rescue Tyson's Place mission is to assist terminally ill people with caring for and finding new families for their pets.

What we do:

We believe that pets belong with their people until the very end. We assist people receiving hospice care by doing basic pet care duties, such as cleaning litter boxes and walking dogs, so that the pet can remain with the owner for as long as possible. Pets are family members, and they have the ability to comfort someone who is in his or her last days. We also set up a plan for the pet after the owner has passed away. If no one in the family is taking the animal, Tyson's Place Animal Rescue will arrange to have the pet live in a foster home until adopted. What we believe:

1) Pets and people deserve dignity in their golden years. People should be able to be with their pets until the end and should know that their pets will be cared for after he or she has passed away.

2) Older animals don't get adopted as quickly as younger animals in animal shelters. They often find themselves first for euthanasia because people simply don't want older animals. The shelter environment is extremely overwhelming for any animal, but even more so for a pet that has just went through the trauma of losing its owner. By intervening early, we will be able to place these animals in foster homes before they end up in shelters. By transitioning the animal to a foster home, the pet gets all the socialization and comfort of home.

3) I, as the founder, am a firm believer in what I call Rescue Done Right - which means addressing the mental well being of an animal and also realizing that euthanasia is not the worst option. I have worked in an open admission animal shelter that, at the time, has a 50% euthanasia rate, and worked with many different kinds of rescue. I am strongly opposed to the long-term warehousing of animals. I understand that cages and kennels are a temporary means of housing animals until a home can be found, but they are not meant to be used for years on end. You cannot rescue a dog and put it in a cement run for the next two years, as the animal's mental well being is dwindling, and then pat yourself on the back that you saved a life. I would be happy to further discuss these ideas and experiences with anyone who is interested.

We are thrilled to announce that Bandit has been adopted!
Bandit came to us after his owner passed away, and his family recognized that he needed more care than they could provide. We were happy to step in and give this sweet senior the care he deserved, including treatment for a skin infection and double ear infections, a much-needed dental, and daily pain management for his arthritis.
Now, Bandit is starting a wonderful new chapter! One of his adopters works from home, so he’ll have plenty of daily love, companionship, and attention.

Apparently, we’re the popular kids now.

We’ve been getting requests for rescue T-shirts, so one of our awesome fosters decided to make it happen! And just look at these cool logos featuring Bandit, Darcy, and Penny—three rescue animals who have all been in our care.

And because we love a win-win, 20% of the profits come back to the rescue!

So basically, you get cool merchandise, our rescue gets some support, and Bandit, Darcy & Penny get to be famous. Seems fair.

Meet Lenny, the 12-year-young Frenchie mix proving age is just a number!
Lenny came to us after his owner sadly passed away, but this resilient guy hasn’t lost his spark. Far from a couch potato, he loves walks, his toy collection, and daily zoomies.
Quick facts about Lenny:
• Home preferences: Only dog, please—he wants all the spotlight!
• Health: Getting a routine vet tune-up (including checking a fatty lump) and will be ready for adoption right after.
Isn’t he handsome? Share Lenny’s story to help him find his next loving home

Three-year-old Paisley has officially found her forever family!

Because our mission is focused on helping terminally ill people care for their pets and finding new families for those pets when needed, we very rarely have younger dogs available for adoption. So, to say we were overwhelmed by the incredible amount of interest in Paisley is an understatement!

We are so happy to share that she is now living her best life with her adopter and family, where she’ll have plenty of human companionship — something this little girl absolutely loves. She loves being the center of attention, and she certainly has a family ready to give her plenty.

This photo of Baby resting beside her person says so much without saying a word.

When Baby’s adopter was going through a very difficult health journey battling cancer and brutal chemotherapy, she seemed to know he needed her. She stayed close by his side, curling up beside him on the couch and sleeping at his feet at night, always keeping a watchful eye on him.

She was more than a cat. She was his comfort, his companion, and his little nurse when he needed her most.

Baby found her person, and they found each other. We’re so grateful she was there for him when he needed her most, and we’re sending our very best wishes that brighter, healthier days are ahead for her person.

Izzy update!

This sweet 13-year-old Mini Schnauzer mix has recovered fabulously from her emergency spay after we discovered she had pyometra, a severe and life-threatening uterine infection.

But Izzy’s medical journey isn’t over yet. She is still dealing with the lasting effects of being kept in a crate for an extended period of time by her elderly owner. She has arthritis in her back and knees, so she is now receiving daily pain medication to help keep her comfortable and moving more easily.

She is also battling a full-body skin infection with both bacteria and yeast. We’ve added antibiotics, medication to help control the itching, and medicated baths to get her skin healthy again.

And through all of this… Izzy has remained the sweetest girl.

Even when she was uncomfortable and not feeling well, she continued to be friendly, loving and incredibly cuddly. She loves nothing more than sleeping on the bed with you at night and curling up in your lap during the day.

This little girl has been through so much, and she continues to show us just how resilient and loving senior dogs can be.

When your foster mom sets up a hammock just for your enjoyment… because 14-year-old Bambi deserves to be spoiled.

One of the beautiful things about fostering is getting to give senior dogs new experiences. A cozy hammock, a soft place to rest, a little extra attention.

We are so grateful to have Dorothy as a brand-new foster with Tyson’s Place. She is already showing Bambi just how wonderful life can be, and we feel incredibly lucky to have her!

Bambi is enjoying her foster life while she waits for her extensive dental procedure with a dental specialist before she can be adopted. Tomorrow is her big day! Please keep this sweet senior girl in your thoughts as she heads in for her dental.

Indy’s on neighborhood watch duty, keeping a close eye on the Airbnb next door! We’ve been talking about dogs a lot lately, but our cats receive that same level of thorough, compassionate veterinary care.

Our sweet Indy, 9, has been struggling with daily vomiting, and we’ve been working hard to figure out why.

We’ve done extensive diagnostics, including X-rays and an ultrasound, and have treated him with fluids, anti-nausea medications, prescription medications, and a course of steroids. Right now, our tentative diagnosis is inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

While the steroids help, once they wear off, Indy starts vomiting again.

So we’re not giving up. We’ve scheduled an appointment with an internal medicine specialist who can take a deeper look at Indy’s case and help us develop the best long-term treatment plan for him.

We pride ourselves on proving the best medical care to our adoptable animals to feel better and live their best lives.

When Grandma hosts a sleepover, there’s always room for one more.

Bambi, age 14, gets to be part of the fun—not just a foster dog, but one of the family.

These are the little moments that remind us why fostering matters so much. Every dog deserves to know what it feels like to be loved, included, and safe.

New dog alert! Meet 5 pound, 3 year old Paisley. When Paisley’s owner experienced a medical crisis and 911 was called, Paisley took her role as household protector very seriously. Her impressive alarm system (also known as her bark!) landed her in the shelter after animal control was called. Sadly, her owner was ultimately no longer able to care for her, so Paisley is now looking for a new person to love and protect. She is a bit skittish at first, especially with men, so she would do best with a dog savvy owner. She is healthy, fixed, and has lived with other dogs.
