One more week before we head out on our Annual Fall Retreat for all new adventures with our largest SAC cohort yet!

We’ve been planning and prepping all week and we’re excited to meet our team for this year. Evan is planning to make his incredible homemade ice cream, and we sampled Miranda’s challah bread infused with garden herbs today during staff meeting - absolute perfection. We’ll have some new opportunities this year - like kayaking on the Pigeon River - and perhaps we need an arm wrestling rematch between Miranda and Landon??? See you soon, SAC!

At CultureWorks, we’re committed to making arts education more accessible to all teens in the greater Holland area, and oftentimes, accessibility begins with mobility.

Last year, transportation was a barrier to program participation for 81 of our students, straining our capacity as enrollment nearly doubled. We pick up students at 6 schools (Holland and West Ottawa) on 2 routes, 4 days a week.

With your help, we’ll purchase 2 fuel-efficient hybrid minivans this fall, so we can meet growing needs while maximizing safety, efficiency and reliability. Hooray!🎉

Come make a two-color print with us this Saturday from 2:00 - 4:00 PM during Tulip City Walls Mural Festival!

Inspired by the stencil project Miguel Ayala teaches during our Graffiti class, these prints will be able to be taken home as a memory of Tulip City Walls, since this is the last year of the festival. Supplies will be limited. Don’t miss out!

Our booth will be near the gazebo at Rosa Parks Green where there’ll be other kids activities. We hope you can make it!

Always a joy to spend the day learning alongside incredible afterschool colleagues from across the state!

Today we dove deeper into the MOST (Michigan Out-of-School-Time) Standards of Quality, developed by MI Afterschool Partnership, and spent time thinking through ways we can strengthen programs and improve outcomes.

The (MOST) Standards of Quality serve as a comprehensive framework to guide the development and enhancement of high-quality, equitable OST programs for youth across the state. These standards are grounded in research and best practices, ensuring that programs meet the diverse needs of participants during non-school hours.

Thanks to Michigan Dept of Lifelong Education, Advancement, & Potential and Edgar Gomez for making this training fun and informative…We did it! We did it! We did it! Yay!

Yesterday we wrapped up our collaborative poetry workshop in partnership with Tulip City Walls Mural Festival! Thanks to the students for being brave and willing to share their poems as part of the Poets Facing East program. Stop by the murals at 16th St. and Central Ave. during the festival to hear these poems be read aloud. 🗣️
