Many thanks to City of Holland for hosting the 7th annual International Festival Holland!

It was a joy to celebrate Holland’s rich cultural diversity and be in community with neighbors near and far. The live music, performances, and food was superb, and we loved being a part of the beautiful evening!

This year, we highlighted the work of some of our favorite contemporary illustrators/designers, including S A R A E M A M I, Hazem Asif, and Vimal Chandran, because their work brings us incredible joy, hope, comfort. Illustrators are artists who tell stories with their work - they are bridge builders and culture bearers; they’re keen observers of reality who dare to imagine the worked beyond, within, and ahead of us.

We’re thrilled to announce that Dr. Brooke Odle, Associate Professor of Engineering at Hope College, will be our keynote speaker at next month’s Fall Benefit!

As we think about the intersection of art, design, and reconnection, Dr. Odle’s research in biomechanics came to mind. She’s passionate about reconnecting people to their world and to others, through the use of technologies designed to assist people with disabilities. Through neuromuscular stimulation, individuals whose legs are paralyzed can more easily transfer across surfaces of different heights, easing strain and reducing injuries to caregivers.

We’re so honored to have Dr. Odle speak while she’s on sabbatical, and excited to introduce our students to her work this year. Stay tuned for an upcoming workshop on designing prosthetic limbs!

Many hands make beautiful work.

These invitations were designed in collaboration with a SAC alum, carved, printed and digitized by Emily, then spray painted and screenprinted by Blake, and assembled with love by this fine crew of volunteers with Women's Service Day last week. What do you do when Chris Garcia (Chris Garcia) donates cases and cases of spray paint? Well you make more art! Our Student Advisory Council is lending a helping hand by creating some art and table decor for our annual benefit happening on November 12th. Here’s a sneak peek at some of the art they’re cooking up.

Last weeks rain didn’t stop our Graffiti class from ending on a high note! Since we weren’t able to bring out our walls, each student created a unique stencil piece on cardboard. By revisiting the first project they did for this class, they were able to combine what they learned in a very experimental way. It’s no wonder this class is a student favorite, they always end up making such cool pieces! ✨
