Hidden Falls hike is short and sweet! Easy to get to and super fun! You do have to cross the road from the S-Curve parking space so be careful and look both ways.😉

Along the side of the Silver Lake Trail, the Plants Crew and our volunteers from Traeger planted native seedlings to stabilize the slope there. Can’t wait to see this restoration area progress as the seedlings grow! Thanks Traeger! You guys rock!!

Donut Falls is listed as Easy on the Alltrails app. It was a nice, pretty hike with lots of kids as well. I hiked it on National Trails Day so it was busy but not too busy. There is a spot where you use ropes to climb down to the water and walk on some rocks to get to the falls. It could be a little difficult for kids, but people seemed to do ok with it.

We’re excited for National Trails Day this year! We’ll be working on the Gloria Falls Trail with our Trails crew and volunteers as well as pulling invasive weeds with our Plants crew and volunteers along Temple Quarry Trail and Alpenbock Trail! Breakfast snacks to keep us going and lunch vouchers donated by Zao! Pretty sweet!

The most common Beaver Dam Analog design is a post-and-weave. In this construction, you drive untreated wooden posts into the stream bed and weave branches and mud between them. These are built to mimic natural beaver activity; providing slow, deeper water habitats for birds, fish, and amphibians. A BDA slows the water flow, giving it time to absorb into the surrounding soil. It also traps sediment and helps to restore ecosystems, especially in times of drought. Another great benefit is that it acts as a natural fire break, a huge help in dry summers. Turns out beavers have the right idea-this is why they are a keystone species! They’re Ecosystem Engineers!
