On Saturday, October 3rd, we were truly overwhelmed by the generosity of our sisters at AMVETS Post 98 in Holiday. They held a collection to support our food drive for Gulf Trace Elementary School, and their kindness means more to us than words can express.
For those who may not know, the VFW Post 10167 Auxiliary provides food every single week for 70 children at Gulf Trace Elementary. We pack each child’s lunch sack with 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 juice boxes, 2 fruit cups, and 2 snacks—enough to help ensure they have food from the time they leave school on Friday until they return on Monday.
This has become one of the most challenging missions our Auxiliary has ever taken on. But thanks to our amazing members, who often reach into their own pockets each week, and the incredible generosity of our sister Posts, including Chester McCay and AMVETS Post 98, we are able to continue this mission and help feed God’s children.
These children are in kindergarten through third grade. They are just beginning to discover the world around them, and our hope is that the kindness and compassion shown to them today will stay with them throughout their lives. Perhaps one day, the love they have received from their community will inspire them to do great things for this country and for others.
For now, we simply want them to know that we are here, we see them, and we care about them.
To our sisters at AMVETS Post 98, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity and support. And to everyone who has donated, volunteered, or helped in any way—thank you!
Please continue to consider donating nonperishable food items, as we still have an entire school year ahead of us. Every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference.
Thank you, God bless you, and God bless these children and our community. 🇺🇸❤️
