We've put the barn to bed for the winter. A couple picnic tables will be left outside for the public to enjoy, although the Red Barn is privately owned the land is open to the public for hiking, picnics, photography etc. All we ask is you stay away from the building when snow loads the roof, due to avalanche hazard.
This year Tom Pettee and his crew stained and patched the North side of the barn, repaired rotten window sills and cleaned up around the loading dock (go figure, we have a loading dock). Great Job, thanks Tom, three quarters of the barn to go.
We weren't able to have activities this year due to road work around our lower driveway. Most barn activities happen around the upper driveway while vehicles pull into the lower driveway, having activities and parking at the same location was too dangerous.
Our irrigation system has been drained, the pipe blown out with a shop vac., the pump winterized with a marine antifreeze and the pickup tube pulled from the pond. An old tree fell atop the hose, no damage, but some cleanup will be needed.
The gardens have been put away. Alas we've lost our gardener, Joe Provost. He's invested in his own "Red Barn" farm project, so we'll have ready made garden space available this Spring. Congratulations Joe and thanks, we're sorry to lose you.
We're tentatively planning the Annual meeting for sometime in May so it can be held at the barn, stay tuned.
