The resurrection of Jesus is not a spiritual metaphor or an article of blind faith. It is the most scrutinized claim in the ancient world -- and the evidence for it is stronger than most people ever take the time to examine. 🪨
Colossians 1:18 calls Jesus the firstborn from the dead. The word firstborn here does not mean first chronologically -- others had been raised before Him. It means first in rank and supremacy. Jesus did not simply return from death the way Lazarus did, only to die again. He passed through death and out the other side into an entirely new and indestructible mode of existence -- and He did it as the guarantee and forerunner of everyone who belongs to Him. Death is not the end of the story for anyone who is in Christ.

Every great mind in history has been searching for the same thing -- wisdom, truth, and the knowledge of reality. And Scripture says it is all hidden in one Person. 🗝
Colossians 2:3 says that in Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Not some wisdom. Not religious wisdom as one category among many. All of it. This means that any pursuit of truth -- whether in science, philosophy, ethics, or meaning -- that bypasses Jesus Christ is a search conducted in the wrong location. The treasures are real. They are just hidden somewhere most people are too proud or too distracted to look.

Colossians 1:19 says that in Jesus all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell. The Greek word for fullness is pleroma -- meaning the totality, the complete sum, nothing withheld. This is not a claim that Jesus was deeply spiritual or unusually close to God. It is a claim that when you encountered Jesus you encountered the complete and undivided God in human form. Every word He spoke was God speaking. Every hand He extended to heal was God reaching. Every tear He shed was God weeping. This is either the most extraordinary truth in history or the most audacious lie ever told. There is no comfortable middle ground.

Most people are willing to give Jesus a place in their life. Very few are willing to give Him first place in everything. 🙏
Colossians 1:18 closes with a statement of staggering intentionality: "so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything." This was not accidental wording. The resurrection was not simply proof that Jesus is alive -- it was God's declaration that Jesus holds supreme rank over every domain of existence including yours. A Jesus who gets Sunday mornings but not Monday decisions is not the Jesus of Colossians. He is something smaller we invented for our own comfort.

Every church that has drifted from Christ has followed the same pattern -- it replaced the Head with something else and called it ministry. 🏛
Colossians 1:18 says Jesus is the head of the body, the church. A body functions only when it takes its direction from the head. The moment a church begins organizing itself around personality, tradition, cultural relevance, or institutional momentum rather than the living lordship of Jesus Christ, it has stopped being the church in any meaningful biblical sense. This is not a peripheral issue. It is the central question every congregation and every believer must answer -- who is actually in charge here.

The church was never meant to be a religious organization held together by programs and personalities. It was designed to be a living body with one Head. ✝️
Colossians 1:18 says Jesus is the head of the body, the church. A body only functions when it is taking direction from the head. The moment any church, ministry, or believer begins operating independently of Christ -- substituting tradition, culture, or personal preference for His lordship -- it stops being the church in any meaningful sense. This is not a small distinction. It is the difference between a living body and a co**se.

There is a word that describes the natural state of every human being before Christ -- and that word is enemy. The gospel changes that completely. ✝️
Colossians 1:20 says God was pleased to reconcile all things to Himself through Jesus, making peace through the blood of His cross. Reconciliation presupposes a broken relationship. Peace presupposes a prior conflict. The cross was not a tragedy that God redeemed after the fact -- it was the deliberate, costly, and final act by which God ended the hostility between Himself and humanity and opened the door for every person who has ever lived to come home. This is what the gospel actually is.

Colossians 1:15 calls Jesus the firstborn over all creation. This is not a statement about birth order -- it is a declaration of supreme rank and authority over everything that exists. Every mountain, every ocean, every star was made through Him and for Him. And yet this same Person wrapped Himself in human flesh and entered the world as an infant who needed to be held. The incarnation is either the greatest act of humility in the history of the universe -- or it is nothing at all.

The emptiness that people spend their entire lives trying to fill was put there on purpose -- and only one Person fits it. 🌍
Colossians 1:16 makes a statement that reframes every human life: all things were created through Jesus and for Jesus. That small word for is the one that changes everything. You were not made by accident and released into a meaningless universe to find your own way. You were made deliberately, by a personal God, for a specific Person. Every pursuit of purpose, meaning, identity, and belonging that bypasses Jesus Christ is a search conducted in entirely the wrong direction.
