Winter is coming. And for some horses, another winter means another season of suffering.
Imagine an elderly horse struggling to stand on frozen ground. A horse living with chronic pain, growing weaker with every passing day. An owner who knows their beloved horse is suffering but simply cannot afford the veterinary care or body disposal needed to give them a peaceful goodbye.
Last winter, devastating ice storms left veterinarians unable to reach horses who had gone down and were suffering.
We don't want to see that happen again.
That's why, on Sunday, October 25th, Horse Plus Humane Society is hosting our Last Act of Kindness event, offering a FREE Humane Euthanasia Clinic alongside a Cash for Horses Buyout Program.
And we need YOUR help to make this possible.
Our mission is simple: No horse should be forced to endure unnecessary suffering because of financial hardship.
Through this event, we are offering struggling horse owners a compassionate alternative, completely free of charge. Our veterinary partners will evaluate each horse's quality of life, and when euthanasia is the kindest option, we will provide that final act of compassion and handle all body disposal costs.
But we're also addressing another heartbreaking reality.
Some horses are sent to livestock auctions simply because their owners cannot afford another option.
Once they enter that auction system, they risk falling into the slaughter pipeline.
We're offering $350 per horse for up to 20 horses through our Cash for Horses Buyout Program, providing a direct alternative to the auction block. Every horse will receive a quality-of-life and adoptability evaluation, giving those who can have a good future the opportunity for one.
But we cannot do this without funding.
Every horse we help comes with real costs. Veterinary care, medications, humane euthanasia, body disposal, and the ongoing care of horses who can be rehabilitated and adopted.
$350 can fund one horse's buyout.
$700 can fund two horses' buyouts.
$7,000 can cover 20 buyout payments.
And every additional gift helps us provide the compassionate care these horses desperately need.
