The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for... Northwestern Fayette County in north central Georgia... Northwestern Meriwether County in west central Georgia... Southeastern Carroll County in northwestern Georgia... Heard County in west central Georgia... Northern Troup County in west central Georgia... Coweta County in west central Georgia...

* Until 600 AM EDT.

* At 522 AM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from Lowell to near Penton, moving east at 60 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

* Locations impacted include... Newnan, LaGrange, Franklin, Peachtree City, Tyrone, Hogansville, Grantville, Luthersville, Centralhatchee, Moreland, Sharpsburg, Turin, Roopville, Lone Oak, East Newnan, Corinth, Plant Yates, Dunaway Gardens, Cannongate, and Harrisonville.

[Update 3/15 at 9:45 PM]
As the strong cold front approaches the area, a line of strong thunderstorms is expected to enter far northwest GA after 1 AM, continuing south and east through the morning and early afternoon.

Several storms within this line will likely be severe.

Damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph will be the primary threat with any severe storms. Severe storms will be capable of producing tornadoes, hail up to 1 inch, and frequent lightning.
Storms are forecast to exit the area to the southeast by the mid-afternoon on Monday.

[ Friday Afternoon Update ] These are the latest forecast snowfall amounts for Saturday. Snow will begin late tonight over far north Georgia and spread southward through Saturday morning. Snow will taper off through Saturday afternoon. Any accumulations will create slick roadways and dangerous driving conditions.

[ Friday Morning Update ] The Winter Storm Warning and Winter Weather Advisory area have been expanded this morning. Within the pink Warning area, 2-6 inches of snow are forecast, with locally higher amounts possible. Within the purple Advisory area, up to 1 inch of snow is currently forecast. Any snow accumulations will produce slick roadways and impact travel.
