Akwesasne, NY – April 22, 2025 – The Strong Roots Charitable Foundation and The Welcome Home Project are proud to announce an Open House on April 26 & 27, 2025, 10am til 2pm showcasing the first completed tiny home designed to support community members transitioning back from incarceration.
Located at 95 Snye Rd., Akwesasne, NY (U.S. Side), this initiative represents a major milestone in a community-led, trauma-informed response rooted in Onkwehonwe values and the Seven Grandfather Teachings. The project, launched in 2021, aims to provide affordable, single-occupancy emergency housing paired with strength-based peer support and essential reintegration resources.
Community members are warmly invited to attend the Open House, meet Program Manager Pray Lazore, and learn more about the vision of the Welcome Home Project. As the first home nears completion with a targeted finish date in May, we are seeking donations of key household items to help furnish the space for its first resident. Needed items include:
• Furniture; pull out couch, small recliner
• Dorm-size fridge/stove, microwave
• Television and mount
• Small dining table and chairs
• Bathroom supplies; shower curtain, rugs, towels
• Household necessities towels, dishes, cookware
In the coming days, the application process will open for our first tenant. Eligible applicants must be single individuals (male or female), committed to an alcohol-free, non-violent, and respectful lifestyle. This housing is intended to serve as a supportive bridge for those rejoining families and society with dignity and care.
For more information or to donate, please join us at the Open House or contact Pray Lazore 518-333-6475.
Together, we build stronger roots for brighter futures. www.strongroot.org
