Our next move is for a shy, quiet young man who became homeless due to serious health issues. Through the help of the Kenneth Young Center and H2H designer Yvonne Miranda, he will soon be moving into an apartment. He loves chess and basketball and is eager to cook for himself.

Although almost everything was found in our warehouse due to our generous donors, there are just a few items that we normally provide but did not have. If you can help, we’d appreciate it.

Since Amazon delivery to the warehouse can be hit or miss, we are asking that items be shipped directly to Yvonne’s home. Thank you!!

We have a new client ( # 259). She is a brave young woman who is a victim of domestic violence and the mom of a 16 month old and a three-year-old. She had the courage to leave a terrible situation and, thanks to Bridge communities and our designers Sharon and Tim Sullivan, she and her little ones will soon be moving into a new home. She is working full-time and trying so hard to make a new life for her and her kids.

We have a short wish list of a few items that would help us give her a safe, cozy home. If you can help, we would be so appreciative.

Move in 257
May 6, 2026
Leads: Karen Harrison & Nicole Herweck
Driver: Dee Bauer

Everyone has needed a little help from others at some point in their lives. Some more than others due to circumstances that create obstacles to success. Kenneth Young Center provided the “help” our client needed to get a roof over her head and supports to ensure a brighter future. Our team of volunteers led by Karen and Nicole provided the home essentials and more needed to make her apartment ready to move in. Thanks to volunteers , Don Herweck, Sophie Harrison, Dee Bauer, and Ava Harrison for giving up a few hours of their time to make this young lady’s dreams come true. Thanks to them our client was able to just walk in and start living. Thanks also to Lynda Rivard for the handcrafted pillow and Linda Farley for the customized welcome basket complete with the clients’ favored sushi inspired items. These special touches are icing on the cake. Shout out to everyone who contributed to this move and to our mission in general. If you are ever wanting to make a donation, but can’t physically come in to the warehouse or shop, please check out our ongoing wish lists on Amazon. We accept any of the items listed purchased from the store of your choice. Use the Amazon list as a reference. Wishing all of you that celebrate Mother’s Day a very happy one!

🆘 Please help our friends at Almost Home, they do incredible work, and we have partnered with them for several years.

Hello Everyone,

Our Neighbors Are at a Breaking Point 💔

I’ll be honest with you: I haven't been able to sleep. Our community is facing a level of need I have never seen before, and right now, our funds are completely depleted.

We have worked tirelessly to keep families afloat, but with the rising cost of gas, the decrease in LINK benefits, and skyrocketing grocery prices, our friends are being pushed to the edge. These aren't just statistics; these are hardworking people who are doing everything right and still falling behind.

The Reality of Today:
We have a list of immediate needs that we simply cannot meet without your help. Here is who your donations will support today:

A Mother & her 14-year-old daughter: Living in a motel. She works as a paraprofessional in our schools, but she is $506 short for this week’s stay. Without this, they are on the street.

A Single Mom escaping abuse: She needs specific groceries for her child with sensory disorders, plus clothes and toiletries to start over.

Preventing Homelessness: We have a single mom of two (one with disabilities) who needs $150 for rent to avoid eviction and $118 for her electric bill.

Keeping the Lights On: An "Almost Home" friend needs $200 to prevent their electricity from being disconnected.

Transportation Crisis: A single mom needs $410 for her car payment so she doesn't lose her only way to get to work. Other friends living in their vehicles can no longer afford the gas to get their kids to school.

Basic Connection: A new friend needs just $40 to keep her phone active so she can receive calls for job interviews.

How You Can Help:
We are working on long-term fundraisers to create a steady stream of support, but these families cannot wait for a future event. They need us now.

Donate Directly: Every dollar goes straight to these specific bills—rent, utilities, and gas cards.

Gift Cards: Gas cards and grocery cards are like gold right now.

Share This Post: You never know who in your circle has been looking for a way to make a direct, life-changing impact.

We’ve helped so many, but we can’t stop now. Please, help us ensure our friends that a mother and daughter have a bed tonight and a hardworking parent can get to their job tomorrow.

You can send a donation using PayPal at www.PayPal.me/almosthomechicago, our website at www.almosthomeChicago.org, or Venmo

Thank you for all your support, together, we are the safety net.

💙Jamie
