Volunteer with us! This Saturday at the DuPont Environmental Education Center we will be hosting our monthly DEEC Day of Service! From 10am - 12pm, join our group as we complete projects around the site. These projects are designed to protect and maintain the wetlands. This volunteer event is free, however, we kindly ask that you register.

Fall has been a busy and memorable season at DelNature! Over the past month, we’ve hosted our Fall Native Plant Sale, A Taste of Coverdale, and Autumn at Abbott’s. Each event brought our community together, welcoming guests and creating special memories for visitors and staff alike.

None of these events would be possible without the incredible support of our community and dedicated staff. Thank you to everyone who joined us, volunteered, supported, and helped bring these events to life. We’re so grateful for each and every one of you!

The Winter Finch Forecast for 2026/7 has just been published! The small army of volunteers who check conifers in the boreal forest throughout Canada and New England report that the cone crops in the east are good, though poor in the central regions. This could mean a late-winter flight of Purple Finches and Red Crossbills, and there is always the possibility of a sudden finch influx if conditions to our north deteriorate. You can attract winter finches to your yard with bird feeders filled with a variety of seeds, especially black oil sunflower, or stop by the blind at Ashland Nature Center to see finches up close!

Visitors to the Bucktoe Creek banding station got a treat last week when we banded an adult Connecticut Warbler. This is one of our rarest warblers and is notoriously difficult to observe because they skulk furtively in dense thickets. Connecticuts are large, pot-bellied, yellowish warblers, and the adults have a gray hood and bold white eye ring. We know relatively little about their biology as they breed in remote bogs of Canada and migrate all the way to South America.
