The HFVMP officially announces an invitation to all member of the public:

The Hoboken Fire Victims Memorial Project will hold an official plaque unveiling Sunday afternoon honoring victims past to present of the Hoboken Fires 1978-1982.

When: Sunday, March 12th, 2023, at 2:30 PM

Where: Tom Olivieri Park, 1225 Willow Avenue, Hoboken, NJ

The victims of the Hoboken Fires past to present numbering in the thousands during the period of 1979 to 1983 will be honored at the official plaque unveiling.

56 people, mostly women and children died in the Hoboken Fires.

At 4:00 pm, the Hoboken Historical Museum will feature Janet Ayala, a survivor who lost her mother, father, brother and nephew in one of the Hoboken fires.

The Hoboken Historical Museum is located at 1301 Hudson St.

The Hoboken Fire Victims Memorial Project is proud to announce we are seeing built the construction of the memorial plaque that will be mounted in Tommy Olivieri Park.

It's been a long, challenging road with roadblocks in recent years but we are finally heading to that day we can honor all those who suffered and died in the Hoboken Fires, past to present.

Hoboken is not the only city to struggle with gentrification, but the fires that plagued the city in the 1970s and 80s displaced thousands of people, killed dozens and scarred the city’s landscape and social fabric. This page brings together some resources for learning more about the period.

The Olivieri Family has canceled the event for this Sunday due to damage of the mural. They will await repairs and reschedule.

PLEASE NOTE THE OLIVIERI EVENT IS CANCELLED THIS SUNDAY.

There will be a park dedication ceremony Sunday, June 5th in Hoboken in memory of and for the renamed Tommy Olivieri Park at 1:00 PM.
