Hoboken C.E.R.T. Community Emergency Response Team.

Hoboken C.E.R.T. Community Emergency Response Team. The Hoboken N.J. The Hoboken team is trained in basic disaster response. We have been active in Hoboken for just about three years.

The Hoboken NJ Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) educates people about disaster preparedness, trains them in basic disaster response and provides support to other local first responders. Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program is an all volunteer organization of community members educated about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area. Our team has opened and

operated emergency shelters, both cooling and heating centers and has participated in civic events. CERT also helped out during Hurricane Irene. Most recently, Hoboken CERT played a major role in helping out during Hurricane Sandy. Among other services CERT provided, we set up and ran a pharmacy program, facilitated food deliveries to seniors and those not able to get out of their homes, oversaw and ran the various food distribution locations throughout the city, staffed and ran three shelters as well as staffed and helped run the operation of the 24/7 Emergency Operations Center in Hoboken City Hall.

We were extremely saddened to learn of the passing last week of our dear friend and original Hoboken CERT member Bob DuVal (center). Bob helped recruit many of our early members, and served a term as president of HERT, our nonprofit fundraising arm. Also pictured: Bob getting soaked at the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in 2014, and that first graduating class in 2010. Regardless of the situation, he was always a cheerful, thoughtful person to have around. We express our heartfelt condolences to all of Bob's friends, colleagues, and family.
