Sometimes, one of the most effective things you can do is pause.
A second or two of silence can help you collect your thoughts, give your audience time to absorb a point, and make what comes next feel more deliberate.
It can feel awkward at first. That’s part of the practice.
Mile Square Toastmasters is taking a pause of our own tonight. We will not meet Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day.
We’ll be back next Monday, September 14, for our online meeting.
In the meantime, try this: the next time you feel the urge to rush into an answer, wait one beat longer than feels natural.
See what changes.
