The Midwest Sundowners hosted members of the Civil Air Patrol Valparaiso Composite Squadron on 5/30 and 5/31.

Staff Sargent Kyle Kodyker heads up Aerospace Education for the squadron and led the cadets in the activities on both days. Cadets previously built their Estes Rockets and brought them to the field for launching.

Each cadet was required to launch and fly their rocket to get credit towards earning a badge. Cadets flew each of their 2 rockets once. Only one rocket landed off-site. The CAP used their drone for retrieval.

At the conclusion of each launch day, everyone agreed that this was both an educational and fun experience!

If you have a group of young persons who would be interested in making arrangements to use our flying field for activities such as this, feel free to contact Ed Rogala at 219-743-9372 for further details.

Our next event will be Model Aviation Day on June 20th and we will again be flying rockets during this event.

We had 15 registered pilots at this event and flew 6+ rounds of combat with 4 aircraft per round.

A "Live Auction" was held at lunch time with a beautiful Pitts Special donated by a deceased member's family.

The Valparaiso Civil Air Patrol provided "search and rescue missions" for any pilot who was unfortunate enough to
not make it back to the flying field!

At the conclusion of the event at 3 PM, Pilot Prizes were given to ALL pilot's who flew during this event. The AT-6 Raffle Prize was won by a spectator from Joliet, IL.

The club wants to thank all the pilot's and spectators for spending the day with us. Our next event is "Model Aviation Day & Swap Meet" on Saturday June 20th. We look forward to seeing everyone then!
