Bags are out! Troop 65 Scouts covered Hobart neighborhoods this morning for the Kiwanis Hobart food pantry drive, hanging donation bags door to door.

Pickup is next Saturday, September 19 — if a Scout left a bag at your door, please fill it with non-perishable items and set it back out that morning.

A lot of sidewalk got walked today, every bag got hung, and the crew earned that lunch stop at the end. Great job, Scouts.

Troop 65 had a great week at Ingersoll Scout Reservation in London Mills, Illinois!

Our Scouts stayed busy with merit badges, fishing, camp activities, patrol time, and plenty of opportunities to grow in confidence and independence. ISR gave our troop a well-organized, welcoming, and memorable summer camp experience.

A few Troop 65 highlights from the week:

* Learned how to move our trailer in mud 🙂
* Great merit badge work and advancement progress
* Excellent fishing, including some impressive largemouth bass
* Great food and desserts
* Clean, warm showers — always worth mentioning after a week at camp
* A lot of laughs, stories, and memories made

Thank you to the ISR staff for being organized, responsive, professional, and cheerful throughout the week.

Proud of our Scouts for a tough, productive, and fun week at camp. Still plenty to work on as we keep building the patrol method, but this was a strong step forward.

Troop 65 is proud to recognize Nick Sommer for being featured in the Pathway to Adventure Council July 2026 Newsletter and for earning Scouting America’s Medal of Merit.

Nick put his Scouting skills and calm thinking into action when he recognized signs of a possible anaphylactic reaction after a neighborhood boy ate a peanut M&M. He quickly and clearly communicated what happened to the boy’s parent, helping ensure a timely response before the situation escalated.

This is exactly what Scouting is about: being prepared, helping others, and using what you learn when it matters most.

Congratulations, Nick. Troop 65 is proud of you!
Be Prepared.

Yesterday, Troop 65 held another successful Flag Retirement Ceremony, retiring nearly two years’ worth of worn and weathered American flags with the dignity and respect they deserve.

This year’s ceremony was especially meaningful as we dedicated our new permanent flag retirement pits, constructed through Eagle Scout candidate Lu Cohen's service project. These pits will serve our community for many years to come, providing a lasting place to properly retire our nation’s colors.

Thank you to everyone who donated flags, attended the ceremony, and helped make the day a success. We are proud of our Scouts for their professionalism, respect, and service to the community.

Congratulations to Lu and to all of Troop 65 on a job well done.

We’ll see you next Flag Day.

This weekend, Troop 65 spent part of Memorial Day giving back in a quiet but meaningful way — cleaning veterans’ graves and restoring headstones at the cemetery.

As Scouts worked through the rows, many names slowly reappeared from beneath dirt, grass, and time. Dozens of stories. Dozens of Americans who served, sacrificed, and should never be forgotten.

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend. It’s a reminder that freedom was paid for by real people with real names — and today our Scouts helped make sure those names could be seen again.

We’re proud of the respectful and solemn way our Scouts carried themselves throughout the service project. Small acts of service matter.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered to honor our veterans today.

A little Trailer Love from Troop 65 this weekend — just in time for summer camp.

Our Quartermasters — past, present, and future — along with Scout families spent time upgrading and cleaning the troop trailer to make sure it is ready for campouts, service projects, and the busy summer ahead. It was a great example of Scouts taking pride in their equipment and working together as a team.

Updates included:
• Trailer lights repaired
• New power distribution box and battery monitor installed
• New interior LED lighting added
• Replaced a badly corroded 7-spade trailer plug
• Deep cleaning and vacuuming
• Old decals removed and new Troop 65 graphics installed

Special thanks to Indiana Wrap Company for donating the new Troop 65 stickers.

Huge thanks to everyone who helped:
Matt Bilkey
Jeremiah and Joey Dubuque
Bridgette and Xavier Bonilla
Matt and Alex Sulski
Bill Zato

Many hands make light work — especially when powered by Scouts, coffee, and about 47 trips in and out of the trailer looking for “that one tool we just had.”
