Happy Freedom Day ❤️💛💚🖤

A reminder that our community is strongest when we stand in solidarity with one another.

Today, we honor those who were denied their freedom & those who fought endlessly. May we continue moving forward together - with compassion, understanding, and love for one another.

We talk about food insecurity a lot…but what does it actually mean? 💭

Food insecurity doesn’t always look like what people expect. It can be:
* Not knowing where the next meal is coming from
* Stretching food at the end of the month
* Skipping meals so kids can eat
* Choosing between groceries and rent, gas, or medication
* Relying on whatever is cheapest, not necessarily what’s healthiest

Not only does this exist locally, it shows up in numbers higher than the national average.

TN-3 Snapshot:
* Children in poverty: 17.2%
* Adults reporting food insecurity in the past year: 15.6%
* SNAP participation: 12.8%

“We can feed at any of our sites, so they all operate as open sites, so your family could show up at the library or a community center, one of the city of Chattanooga centers, and ask for a meal, and they can provide.”

EYE ON HEALTH: Most students look forward to the summer break, but for some it can mean waking up or going to bed on an empty stomach.

The local YMCA is stepping in to help through their free summer food program.

Sunday is Mother's Day! 🌷 Happy Mother’s Day to all those out there who…

• no longer have your mom here
• have difficult relationships with their mom
• are grieving the child you lost
• are longing to become a mom
• became a mom through adoption, foster care, surrogacy, or IVF
• are stepmoms, bonus moms, grandmas, aunties (by blood or friendship), or mother figures making a difference in someone’s life
• are doing this without a village
• are carrying the invisible weight no one sees
• are balancing motherhood with work, caregiving, or survival
• are healing from the way you were raised while trying to raise your children differently
• have children with disabilities or complex needs
• have strained relationships with your children
• are single moms doing the work of two parents
• have postpartum depression & anxiety
• are mourning the version of motherhood you imagined
• are celebrating your very first Mother’s Day
• are watching your children grow into kind, beautiful humans
• found family and community in unexpected places
• are proud of how far you’ve come
• show up every day

Life is complicated. Motherhood never looks the same for everyone. Give yourself grace. We love you! 💛

Autism Awareness Month holds a special place in our hearts as both of our founders have kiddos with autism. 💙

You may have heard that autism rates have increased, now affecting 1 in 31. A lot of people hear that and assume autism is “on the rise,” but it’s important to understand the full picture. The criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder changed in 2013, which means more people, who may have previously been overlooked, are now being identified and supported.

A diagnosis can come with a wide range of emotions. But above all, it creates an opportunity to learn, to grow, and to better support others in the way they deserve.

One book on my reading list is Ido in Autismland, written by a non-speaking autistic individual, who learned to communicate through spelling. His story challenges a common misconception: not speaking ≠ not understanding or feeling. Many hear, feel, and process far more than they’re able to express.

We are better when we're an understanding & supportive community - for everyone!

No fooling: we had some “firsts” last month! Last Saturday, we were proud sponsors of All Or Nothing Fights. We set up our booth for the first time and had the chance to connect openly with so many incredible people in our community. 🌟

It was also all of our first time attending a professional, in-person fight 😄

We truly love talking about what we do and how we’re helping our community. We appreciate the conversations and support—and we’re already excited for the next one!

Thank you again to ANF for the opportunity & an awesome event—we had such a great time.💛🎉
