To the dismay of hunters and conservationists, Recovering America’s Wildlife Act (RAWA) came to an abrupt halt Monday evening when this landmark legislation was not included as part of the omnibus spending bill.
The $13 billion package - spread out over a decade - would create dedicated, state-based funding for wildlife habitat projects across the country targeting more than 12,000 “at risk” species, including bobwhite quail, sage grouse, lesser prairie chickens, bumble bees, and monarch butterflies.
“Bipartisan support for RAWA is still strong, but this critical conservation bill did not reach the President’s desk in the 2022 session,” said Bethany Erb, PF & QF’s Director of Governmental Affairs. “We look forward to connecting with new members of Congress in 2023 while utilizing the strong voice of our membership to make RAWA a reality.”
