ICAP (Iowa County Assurance Pool) is celebrating 40 years of life! ICAP is a group self-insurance program for Iowa public entities that provide coverages and services tailored to the member’s exclusive needs and who partner exclusively with local Iowa agents.
ICAP is celebrating their 40th anniversary, by giving 40 member counties a free Red Oak tree to plant somewhere on County property. Red Oak trees are known to live at least 40 years with some having up to 100 years of life; symbolizing the 40 years of life of ICAP so far.
The 40 member counties who are selected to receive a free tree are a combination of the counties who were the first member counties to join the pool 40 years ago, and the counties who just joined the pool in most recent years. ICAP currently contains 79 of the 99 counties in Iowa as members in the pool. Plymouth County is a founding member, joining the pool 40 years ago, in 1986. The contributing photo shows when Plymouth County received their red oak tree earlier in September. Auditor, Stacey Feldman works directly with ICAP tracking all county property and equipment; additions or deletions to the county insurance policy along with ensuring that the proper insurance premiums are paid so there is coverage; tracking insurance claims and payments along with working with ICAP annually to ensure proper renewal information and terms are met. The Board of Supervisors work directly with the local agent to find what the right deductibles should be each year in order to monitor annual premium rates.
A red oak tree has also been planted at the Hillview Recreation Area, west of Hinton, where it can live to grow in the open space for 40 more years or for even up to a hundred more years to come!
