You raised your hand. Now it’s our turn. 💙

One of the things we hoped would happen at the NASMM Board table in Indianapolis was exactly what you see in these photos.

Members stopped. They asked questions. They shared ideas. They told us what they care about, where they have experience, and where they would like to contribute.

And many of you had already done the same thing through NASMM’s Get Involved / Committee Interest Survey.

So this post isn’t another request for you to raise your hand.

It’s an update on what happens after you do.

This week, your Board is beginning the next stage of that work - reviewing the interest we’ve received, looking at NASMM’s current priorities, determining which committees and volunteer opportunities should be activated first, identifying leadership and Board-liaison needs, and preparing a structure that gives volunteers something meaningful to step into.

We don’t want to invite members onto committees and then ask them to figure out for themselves what they’re supposed to accomplish.

We want the work to have purpose from the beginning.

If you already completed the interest form, you do not need to do anything else right now. We have you. We’ll be reaching out as the first opportunities begin to take shape.

And if one of those conversations at the Board table sparked an idea that followed you home from Indianapolis? Keep it. There is much more ahead.

Because getting members involved was never supposed to end with a QR code. That was where the conversation started.

That’s a wrap on the NASMM 2026 Conference!

We are leaving this year’s conference feeling informed, inspired, and incredibly grateful for the connections made along the way. The sessions offered relevant and timely insights, and it was wonderful to connect with colleagues from across the U.S. and Canada who share a passion for helping people and families navigate life’s transitions.

Our owner, Kaye, is especially honored to serve on NASMM ’s Board of Directors and to work alongside such a dedicated group of professionals. She is looking forward to supporting our members, strengthening our industry, and helping NASMM continue to grow.

A huge thank you to AMR for facilitating such a seamless event, and to everyone who contributed to making this conference such a meaningful experience. Until next year!

Sometimes the size of the room tells you something before the session even begins. 💙

A packed room gathered at NASMM 2026 for Understanding Executive Function to Better Serve Employees & Clients, presented by NASMM President Jami Goldfarb Shapiro of Silver Linings Transitions Move Managers.

Executive functioning affects far more than whether someone is “organized.”

During periods of stress and major transition, challenges with decision-making, emotional regulation, follow-through, communication, and overwhelm can show up in our clients, our employees - and in ourselves.

Jami brought her professional expertise, personal experience, humor, and vulnerability to a topic that clearly resonated with the room.

And judging by the conversations afterward - and the line that formed for her book signing - people weren’t quite ready for the discussion to end. 😊

One of the things we value most about NASMM Conference is the opportunity to look more closely at why people may respond the way they do during a transition, and how greater understanding can help us serve and lead with more compassion and effectiveness.

Congratulations on a wonderful session, Jami - and thank you for helping keep this important conversation moving forward. 💙

Some Conference moments deserve to live beyond the room. This is one of them. 💙

During the NASMM 2026 Business Meeting, Cindy Greer shared the story and meaning behind the Peg Guild Professional Development Scholarship before introducing this year’s recipient, Caitlin Rogers, Co-Founder of Good Move Downsizing.

Caitlin had only a couple of minutes at the microphone. What she said captured something about this profession - and the people who have built it - that we didn’t want to lose when Conference ended.

The full video is just under seven minutes, and we hope you’ll watch it from the beginning. Cindy’s introduction gives important context to the legacy behind this scholarship, and Caitlin’s remarks are worth hearing in her own voice.

Caitlin also graciously shared her words with us afterward:

“Thank you so much. NASMM guidance has been instrumental in getting our business going.

You all. We have the strangest job:

At 10am, we’re holding hands with someone on one of the hardest day of their lives.

At 11am, in their backyard, fishing koi fish out of the pond to rehome them.

By lunch we just might have saved a marriage.

And then cheerfully head out to the shed to take care of a dead squirrel.

I do think this work is kind of radical.

We come from all kinds of backgrounds.

Many of us made a decision along the way to leave a former career where we had to fight to claim our space and assert our worth.

In this room today, we’re growing an industry largely built by women, doing work that for generations was simply expected of women and rarely recognized as expertise: organizing a home, caring for people through transitions, keeping track of the thousand details nobody else notices, and helping a family get through something hard.

We’re here to assert that these are life-changing, deeply valuable skills. And we can’t let them be taken for granted.

There's something else pretty radical about what we do.

We take older people - including older women, including people experiencing cognitive decline, seriously.

We take their stories seriously.

We ask what matters to them and we listen.

We’re getting to create good jobs doing important, and sacred work of supporting and honoring the lives of others.

So thank you to NASMM, to the people like Margit and Peg who built this profession before us,

And to everyone in this room who keeps demonstrating that caring for people well matters deeply and is a radical act.

Thank you.”**

Caitlin later told us that attending Conference gave her new ideas, new relationships, and an even deeper appreciation for NASMM and the people who make it what it is. As someone still growing her business, she described being surrounded in person by people who understand and care deeply about this work as especially meaningful.

Congratulations, Caitlin. And thank you for reminding us so beautifully what this profession is really about.
