Our friends at Hinsdale Historical Society shared this fabulous photo of John Fuller (left) playing checkers with his brother Edward (right) while friends watch at Mohr’s Store at the northeast corner of present day York and Ogden in Fullersburg. The photo, which is dated to @ 1890, was also used as an advertisement for paint manufacturer Heath and Mulligan! The brothers’ father, Ben Fuller, was the founder of
Fullersburg, first arriving in the area in 1834. For further information about the Settlement Era, visit fullersburg.org.
Thanks again, HHS!!

Is there a special meaning etched on the headstone marking the final resting place of veteran David W. Reilly found in Historic Fullersburg Cemetery? (“Do not cry. I had a grand time.”) David was born on 9/10/1933; he is a veteran of the Korean War, which lasted from 6/25/1950-7/27/1953. Records indicate that David was related to the Kurth family, whose presence is also found at the cemetery—with a Cubs “W” flag by the marker. Fullersburg Historic Foundation honors all of the veterans who are serving, or who have served, our country. For more information about the Settlement Era in this area, please visit fullersburg.org.

Civil War veteran Morell Fuller (1829- 1912), laid to rest at Historic Fullersburg
Cemetery in Hinsdale, made the trek with the large Fuller family from New York to this area in 1835. His mother (Nella Brookins) later wrote that after settling here, he and his siblings played with the Potawatomi children who were
facing forced relocation. Morell joined the 105th regiment of the Illinois volunteer infantry in 1862 as a Union soldier, and fought at Resaca, Kennesaw Mountain, Peachtree Creek,
and Atlanta, and was with Sherman on his campaign to Savannah. He was a musician during the Civil War, and he played the fife and drums. Visit Morell’s grave during the traditional flag-changing ceremony at noon on Memorial Day (5/25/26) at the Historic Fullersburg Cemetery, which is located at the north end of Garfield between Maumell and Fuller. Morell was the younger brother of Benjamin, founder of Fullersburg. Visit fullersburg.org to learn more about the Settlement Era in this area.

inhabited this area before Settlement,
about the large Fuller family who moved here from New York, and about the
unique balloon frame construction of
the Ben Fuller Farmhouse, built in 1840.

What would Ben Fuller say if you stopped by his Farmhouse in 1845 Fullersburg? If you asked him to repair your boots, help bale hay, shoe your pony, fix a tool, plat the town, make a cabinet, build a tavern, or take part in a debate, he would say, “I can do that!”
Learn more about Ben and the unique
balloon frame construction of his farmhouse at fullersburg.org! Thank
you, AI, for helping us to visualize this
fascinating man who was the founder of historic Fullersburg.
