For anyone that has been thinking about becoming a wildlife rehabber or wants to learn more about what’s involved, this is a fantastic course to take! It’s taught by two very knowledgeable and longtime rehabilitators in a friendly and supportive setting . Massachusetts needs more wildlife rehabbers, and this is a fantastic first step!

Wildlife rehabilitation. One important thing we learn is to recognize when an animal needs our help and when to leave it alone. Wildlife don't always make this easy. Some animals look like orphans, but have a parent hiding nearby. Some animals, like turtles, are independent at birth. Some animals hide injuries so it is not clear whether they should be captured.
Our webinar " Wildlife Rehabilitation: Beginning the Journey" discusses how to tell whether an animal needs human assistance or to be left alone. This information is valuable to EVERYONE since we need a knowledgeable community to make good decisions about wildlife.

We still have some space available! Come on out for a fun afternoon with friends and help support the many babies overwintering with us this season! Today we released the first group of raccoons, it was a busy day of netting, crating and transporting and there are still more to go! Huge, thanks as always to Donna Perry for always being willing to help wrangle them every year !! This season we took in over 45 raccoons plus lots of other species, but it’s always hard to see them leave!❤️

Over the past few years, we have been noticing an increase in the number of babies born later in the season , possibly due to changing climate patterns.
This year we had an unusually large number of orphaned bobcat kits come in , but we were not expecting a tiny baby this late in the season! Her eyes have just opened and she will be kept here for the winter with the others, and all will be released back into the wild next spring.
If you would like to consider donating towards their food costs, it would be much appreciated! We will be going through a substantial amount of mice over the next eight months!!

I believe we may have exceeded OSHA‘s weight limit for this shelving! And yes, there are several other lounging spots throughout the cage, which are apparently not the cool place to be!

Today we released the porcupine that came in this spring with severe mange, it has taken this long for all of his hair and quills to grow back enough for him to be protected from predators when we released him. The awesome couple that found him and got him here to be cared for were able to be there for his release, and he showed his gratitude by immediately zooming up a tree , ignoring us, and starting to stuff his face!

So our naked porcupine is growing back hair and quills now that the mange has been treated and is almost 100% cleared up! It will probably be another month or so before enough quills grow in to adequately protect him from predators when we release him, but he’s definitely feeling and looking better!

For anyone who’s ever wondered what a naked porcupine would look like, this one’s for you!
This little guy came in suffering from an extreme case of mange and severely underweight. He still has a little patch of mange crust on his head that hasn’t fallen off yet, but the rest of his body is looking good and his hair is starting to grow back as black fuzz. It takes a while for the quills to fully grow back in, so he will be staying until he grows enough back to protect him from predators before being released.
In the meantime, he is eating enough for a small army and living his best life.💕
