Happy National CHW Awareness Week!
CHWs are trusted messengers, connectors, and advocates. They meet people where they are – in their language and in their neighborhoods. They know the struggles and the strengths of their communities. And that familiarity changes everything — it turns a clinic visit from intimidating to approachable. It removes the shame that keeps people from asking for help.

Funding CHWs means investing in the relationships that drive real health outcomes. The West Suburban CHW Initiative is a great example of this trust-building work, and we are proud to support these efforts.

The team will present recommendations for strengthening health information systems, elevating the value of the CHW workforce, and advancing partnerships that support equitable, community-centered care. The session will also highlight opportunities for state agencies, funders, health systems, and community organizations to apply these findings to policy, funding, and practice.

The West Suburban CHW Initiative is celebrating seven years of showing up to improve community health, and the impact keeps growing.

In the last year alone, the CHW Initiative nearly doubled the number of clients served, from 4,900 to 8,964. That is not just a number. That is nearly 9,000 people who had a trusted neighbor, a familiar face, and a knowledgeable guide in their corner when navigating health and social services.

CHWs are not just healthcare extenders; they are community members first. People who live where they serve, speak the languages of their neighbors, and understand the barriers their communities face from the inside out.

We are proud to support the West Suburban CHW Initiative and the CHWs whose work makes this possible.
