Did you know that listening to music while working out can improve and enhance your workout? It is a great distractor and an effective motivator. The weekend is a perfect time to create those playlists. Here are a few good reasons to get started:

- Music is a good distractor from your level of exertion. Don't feel the pain, feel the beat.

- Music increases your effort. Upbeat music tends to help you pace yourself with the beat. It motivates you to move and push a bit harder.

- Music Puts you in the zone. Great lyrics are motivating and can help you associate feelings with the song. Consider your playlist your “Game Day” anthem. You know, kind of like Rocky.

- Music improves your mood. Music naturally boosts dopamine, the neurotransmitter that drives your brain’s reward system. Listening to music during a workout can give you a hit of dopamine – resulting in feelings of well-being.

- Music also exercises your brain. Part of your brain decodes pitch and tempo while other parts are stimulated by lyrics.

Spend this weekend creating your favorite playlists to prep for next week’s fitness routines. Don’t forget that playlists for relaxation and meditation are also beneficial to your mind, body and soul.

Get creative, have fun and let us know who is on your playlist in the comments below!! TGIF, happy weekend and happy listening!! \m/
