Save One Soul Improving the quality of life and welfare of animals in the Louisville and surrounding area.

Save-One-Soul (SOS) is a Louisville, KY based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that works towards improving the quality of life and welfare of pets in the Louisville and surrounding areas by providing veterinary care to un-owned or shelter animals that are in the most urgent need. After accepting animals into our program, we provide them with the urgent veterinary care needed to treat their condition before moving them into foster care. While in foster care, the animals get acclimated to a normal home life, and receive follow-up treatments, including routine veterinary care, thus allowing us to facilitate adoption into a loving and permanent home.

Meet Zorro ❤️

Because of your support, we were able to help another cat in need.

Zorro's journey hasn't been an easy one. After being surrendered to a shelter, he struggled with the stress of shelter life. Staff hoped they could find him a safe place as a barn cat, and that's when an incredible animal lover named Susan stepped in. Already caring for several cats, she opened her heart and gave Zorro the second chance he deserved.

For a while, Zorro was thriving. Then, his health began to decline. Susan did everything she could, seeking veterinary care and never giving up on him. When his condition worsened, she reached out to us for help.

Zorro spent several days in the hospital, and there were moments when we weren't sure he would make it. Thankfully, after receiving the care he desperately needed, he was finally able to return home to Susan, where he is surrounded by love.

His veterinary bill, however, exceeded what we were able to cover. If you would like to help with Zorro's ongoing care, we'd be happy to connect you directly with Susan.

For the past 10 years, stories like Zorro's have only been possible because of you. Every donation, every share, every like, and every kind word helps us reach another animal in need. Thank you for standing beside us and making second chances possible. ❤️

*******Update 7/29/26********

Sadly, the owner of these two dogs never came to pick them up. The stray hold is up, and they are officially under our care now. They are scheduled to see our vet very soon.

Homeward Bound

On Friday, we were contacted about 2 dogs that had been roaming in the Hillview area for a while. Eva, a fellow animal lover, was able to gain their trust and bring them to safety in her home, and get them registered with the animal shelter in Bullitt County.

Brandi, one of our friends and supporters, checked the dogs for a microchip (no chips were found), and contacted us for help. We gladly stepped up and provided Eva, the foster with necessary supplies and food for the dogs. We were going to get them into our vet for necessary care as soon as possible.

Eva posted about the situation, and this is where the happy ending starts: the dogs actually lost their initial owner earlier in the year, when their "mom", who lived in Shepherdsville, passed away. Their "aunt", who lives near Churchill Downs took them in, and that is where they disappeared from. Their "aunt" and new owner looked for them, and posted about them online. It is quite a distance from Churchill Downs to Hillview, and it is amazing that the 2 dogs made it that far. At any rate, we are ecstatic to report that through help of the social media community, the dogs were re-united with their "aunt" and rightful owner.

It took a village, and we're thankful for everyone who made this reunification happen. Particular thanks to Eva for stepping up and bringing the dogs to safety and to Brandy for coordinating this entire endeavor.

Update: we will be assisting the "aunt" in bringing these pups up-to-date on vaccinations, getting the boy dog "fixed" and have the ear taken care of.

You may remember from a previous post that we have not had great success in finding fosters to help the homeless dogs in need.

We therefore decided to broaden our spectrum and help owned pets in need of vet care if certain criteria are met. We are hoping that this will help many pets stay in their homes.

We are happy to report that we recently helped the first cat under this new program: Meet Tweety

Tweety was originally taken in by her current owners as a cat in need of help. Until the last few months, Tweety had been in good health, thanks to the great care of her owners. Sadly, she recently fell ill, and despite of receiving extensive vet care, she did not improve. Several different treatment options were pursued, but nothing seemed to help. and Tweety would need the help of advanced diagnostic

s in order to determine the root cause and potential treatment. We heard about Tweety and after receiving an application that was reviewed and approved by our team, we were able to provide financial help toward the diagnostics necessary. Thankfully, the worst-case scenario was eliminated through the diagnostic procedure, and a treatment plan is now in place.

We are happy that we were able to help Tweety with this one-time small grant, and hope that Tweety will now live a long, healthy life.

We couldn't do this without you, and your support. If you want to help other pets in this way, please consider making a donation to Save One Soul. Checks can be mailed to PO Box 353, Hillview, KY 40129 -- Venmo: -- PayPal: https://saveonesoulatatime.org/donate.html

Today we are mourning the sudden and unexpected loss of one of our former foster dogs, sweet Sadie.

We first welcomed her into our rescue when she was only a few months old. From the beginning, we knew she was a fighter. She experienced repeated episodes of dangerously high fevers that left veterinarians searching for answers, but despite countless tests and evaluations, no clear diagnosis was ever found.

Then came a terrifying grand mal seizure. After receiving treatment for the seizures, something remarkable happened — the unexplained fever episodes finally stopped. She went on to enjoy the love, safety, and happiness every dog deserves, and we were so hopeful her hardest days were behind her.

Her passing has left us heartbroken. The dogs that come into rescue and leave paw prints that never fade, and Sadie was absolutely one of them. We will always remember her resilience, her spirit, and the joy she brought to everyone who knew her.

Please keep her family, fosters, and everyone who loved her in your thoughts tonight. Run free, beautiful girl. You were deeply loved, and you always will be. ❤️

🐾 We Need Your Help to Say “Yes” to More Dogs 🐾

Every day, we work hard to save dogs with nowhere else to go—unowned, abandoned, and at-risk shelter dogs who need a second chance. Because of you, we’ve been able to change so many lives. ❤️

But we’re facing a growing reality…
More and more owned dogs are in crisis—families who love them but can’t afford urgent medical care or are facing heartbreaking circumstances. These dogs are at risk of being surrendered or worse—not because they aren’t loved, but because help just isn’t accessible.

We want to step in for them, too.
The challenge?
Dogs with higher veterinary needs require more funding… and often longer, more committed fosters. Right now, both are in short supply.

💡 Here’s where you come in:
🏡 Become a foster (even short-term helps!)
💸 Donate toward medical cases
📣 Share our mission with others

Expanding our focus means we can prevent surrenders, keep families together when possible, and step in before situations become emergencies.
We don’t want to say “no” when a dog needs us. With your support, we won’t have to.

We would love to have your feedback on this plan. Please feel free to comment with anything pertinent to this. Good, bad, or indifferent - we need your advice before we proceed.

🐶 Together, we can save more lives—before they end up in the system.
