ROE JAN FOOD PANTRY

The Roe Jan Food Pantry has been available for those in need for the past 36 years and serves the Towns of Hillsdale, North Hillsdale (to Austerlitz), Copake, Ancram (to the Pine Plains district), Craryville and parts of Taghkanic , Gallatin & Ghent. The Pantry is located at the 2684 Rte 23 Hillsdale, NY 12529 and is an ecumenical effort supported by all area churches. They are no Government Subsidies received and we rely solely on monetary and food donations from our community. All money donated is spent only on the purchase of food. We are completely staffed by volunteers; there are no paid positions. Our volunteers meet with those in need by appointment. This is most useful as some may not have cars and need to arrange transportation to get to us. People may only collect food once per month from the pantry. Even though we are open every Friday 10:00 til 12:00 We serve on the average of 1 00 people a month. In November, we distribute "Thanksgiving Baskets"; boxes of food that include a turkey (or a chicken for small families) and all of the trimmings for a full holiday dinner, as well as enough other food for an entire month. There are so many families in our area in need. In 2018 we handed out 179 baskets, which provided food for 42 seniors,353 adults,89 teens,228 children and 10 infants. Seniors are also supplied with a "Toiletry Bag' with their baskets complete with soap, shampoo, lotions, nail clippers, comb & brush and other necessities. In 2019 we handed out 217 baskets which provided food for 44 seniors,396 adults,114 teens,288 children and 8 infants. We are blessed with a caring community that supports our pantry and rely on donations to continue our mission.
