Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Telling the Full Story program at Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church. We are deeply grateful to the congregation for welcoming us into such a historic and sacred pace, and to all who came ready to listen, learn, and engage in thoughtful conversation.

We are honored to continue this work together; telling the full story, preserving local Black and Indigenous history, and building connections across our community.

Please join us on Saturday, February 28th at 2pm for a discussion with Dr. Craig Thompson Friend, the author of Becoming Lunsford Lane: The Lives of an American Aeneas. This talk is hosted by Eagle Lodge No. 19 and supported by the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough. Eagle Lodge no 19. is located at 142 W King Street in Hillsborough, NC. This talk is free and open to the public.

This talk explores the remarkable life of Lunsford Lane, an enslaved man who purchased his freedom, became a well-known speaker and abolitionist, and challenged the limits of citizenship and race in nineteenth-century North Carolina. Drawing from his groundbreaking biography, Dr. Friend examines Lane’s rise to fame, his collaborations with leading abolitionists, and the resistance and violence he faced, offering a powerful portrait of a man navigating freedom, identity, and survival in a deeply divided America. Copies of Becoming Lunsford Lane will be available for purchase.
