Kings Own Patriots

Kings Own Patriots The Kings Own Patriots (KOP) has been a progressive re-enacting group of the late eighteenth century during the American War for Independence.

Have not taken the field as a unit for a while. The Kings Own Patriots (KOP) is the legal name for a re-enacting group focused on learning more and sharing our knowledge with others particularly at historic sites throughout the southern theater of the War for American Independence. As a militia unit, we often represent either side of the conflict. We are known either as the loyalist North Carolina

Volunteers or as the rebellious patriots mustered under the banner of the Hillsborough District Militia. Our style of representation has been referred to as 'campaigner' since our wooden stick fire uprights are often found in the 'no fly' zone of any event we attend. Members often forego sleeping in tents or sitting around in 'camp furniture' as the soldiers we represent during the war were also deprived of such extravagant luxuries. We carry what we need and typically leave the rest in the car (back in the parking lot not parked next to our tent) and live as simply and authentically as we can from our clothing to our food choices.
