Dr. Megan Shepherd-Banigan was awarded the honor of Woman of the Year by Central Carolina Women in Business today for her work at Duke University and VA Cares, and her efforts to give back to the community through local volunteering. Dr. Shepherd-Banigan directs a national initiative that evaluates programs that support family caregivers of veterans, while also leading research to improve cancer care and women's health services for women veterans. Locally, she has volunteered with Girls on the Run, Girl Scouts, Eno River Academy and with voter registration efforts. The three other finalists included Aubrey Williams (97.9 The Hill WCHL and Chapelboro.com), Megan Overbay (Big Spoon Roasters) and Angela Wacker (Paws4ever). The event was hosted at The Colonial Inn Hillsborough by the Hillsborough Chamber and was sponsored by Hillsborough Wills & Trusts.

The Phil Harvey Center for Entrepreneurship, presented by PHE, INC and powered by the Hillsborough-Orange County Chamber of Commerce, is officially open! PHE, Inc. CEO Lewis Broadnax cut the ribbon to welcome the inaugural class of eight entrepreneurs into the first year-long program that will feature Entrepreneurial Operating System training conducted by EOS Implementer Clay Harris, mentorship through a partnership with SCORE, educational seminars taught by local business professionals, office space in the Center and much more. Funding is being provided by PHE, Inc. and the Center is named in honor of PHE founder Phil Harvey.

The Hillsborough Chamber hosted its first annual Nonprofit Impact Summit at The Whitted Building on Wednesday. 70 attendees representing nearly 30 nonprofits were in attendance for a full day of workshops and education on a variety of topics and issues that affect our nonprofits ability to be successful in their missions. Special thanks to the speakers: Ivy Taylor (UNC Local Relations Director), Nate Byrd (Hamilton Point Investment Advisors), Brian Stark and Paige Stapleton (Authentic Marketing), Steve Spokane (PORCH Communities), Rebecca Hankins (CORA Food Pantry), and Mitchell Moravec and Michelle Sorrells (Triangle Community Foundation). Even bigger thanks to Meaghun Darab (PORCH Hillsborough), Amanda Boyd (Unlocking Access) and Lindsay Day for serving on our leadership team to organize the event!
