The Hillsborough Chamber’s Central Carolina Women in Business (CCWIB) program initiated a new phase of community service by volunteering yesterday at The Diaper Bank of North Carolina. CCWIB and Chamber volunteers wrapped 9,700 diapers for distribution. Volunteers included CCWIB Leadership Team members Emilee Collins-Pickett Sprouse Commercial Real Estate; Cynda Beauchamp - Edward Jones; Amanda Boyd (Unlocking Access) and Scott Czechlewski (Hillsborough Chamber).
The Diaper Bank of NC was formed in January 2013 by Michelle Old, with the hope of providing 50,000 diapers in her community. The Diaper Bank now distributes over 7.5 million diapers a year state-wide, with branches in the Triangle, Charlotte, Greater Triad, and Lower Cape Fear Region.
Public safety net programs such as The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, previously known as Food Stamps) do not cover the purchase of diapers, often leaving families with a difficult decision between buying diapers and other necessities with their limited funds. For families in need, something as small as a diaper can have a significant impact.
