💙 Our hearts are with this family during this unimaginable loss.

Every child lost to drowning is one too many.

We are grateful for the funders, donors, and swim school partners who help expand access to life-saving water safety education and survival swim lessons for children throughout our community.

We remain committed to a future where every child has the opportunity to learn these life-saving skills. Please keep this family in your thoughts.

The 5-year-old boy reported missing this morning has been found deceased in a pond near his home.
One of the parents woke up around 9 a.m. and discovered a hole in the back screen. After searching the home and the surrounding area and being unable to locate the child, the parent called 911 at 9:31 a.m. to report him missing.
"There are no words that can ease the pain of losing a child. Today, our entire Sheriff's Office family grieves alongside this family. Every deputy and detective who responded did so with the goal to bring this little boy home safely," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "I am incredibly proud of how quickly our agency responded, but my heart breaks that the outcome wasn't what we all prayed for."
The investigation remains active. More information: https://teamhcso.pulse.ly/nq0pyhsebr

💙 Some partnerships truly save lives.

Ahead of World Drowning Prevention Day, we want to take a moment to celebrate a business that has been making a lasting difference in our community.

For several years, Edge Pools has faithfully supported the Water Smart Tots Foundation through generous annual sponsorships that help provide life-saving survival swim scholarships to local children.

Because of their continued commitment, dozens of children have had the opportunity to learn essential self-rescue and water survival skills.

To the entire Edge Pools team, thank you for believing in our mission and investing in the safety of children throughout our community.

💙 Please join us in thanking Edge Pools for helping make our community a safer place for children and families.

One of the greatest benefits of our Float First for Infants & Toddlers program extends beyond the child—it reaches the entire family.

Through our partnership with the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County children are gaining lifesaving water safety skills while parents learn how to safely interact with, practice with, and support their child in and around the water.

Water safety doesn’t end when the lesson is over. It continues every time families spend time together in the water. 💙💦

Knowing what to do in the event of a drowning could make the difference between life or death. Rescue breathes first!

Florida is experiencing a record-breaking year for child drownings. Seventy-two children have already lost their lives, and every one of those tragedies was someone’s son, daughter, grandchild, or friend. We cannot accept this as normal. Water safety starts with layers of protection: supervision, barriers, early survival swim lessons, and CPR. Together, we can change this trend and save lives. 💙

😳😞 Since the 4th of July, 10 children have died in the state of Florida from drowning. And now we are up to 72 children who are gone and whose families and communities are devastated.

If you live in Florida, you probably have some type of body of water within 100 yards of your home. It could be the pool in your backyard, your neighbor’s backyard, a canal across the street or a lake or pond in the neighborhood. - and of course, everyone has a bathtub.

- DO NOT underestimate your child to figure out how to get out of the house, no matter how old they are and how confident you are that they can’t figure it out.

- Make sure to have ALARMS ON DOORS that are turned ON and that your gates are LOCKED.

- Always assign a WATER WATCHER. Every year we lose children while adults are standing around the pool, but not paying attention to the kids in the water. 35+% of individuals with autism have epilepsy. Their very first seizure could happen while they’re in the water.

- Make swim lessons a PRIORITY.

- Learn CPR and have an emergency checklist on your refrigerator. If a crisis occurs, you won’t remember what you need to do so a checklist is of utmost importance.

- For children who have a tendency to wander, research and consider personal tracking devices.

Take valuable steps to ensure that you don’t become a parent who says, “I never thought it could happen to me.”

☀️ It’s going to be HOT this Fourth of July weekend! 🇺🇸

With temperatures feeling like 98°+, more families will be heading to pools, beaches, lakes, and splash pads to cool off.

That also means more opportunities for water emergencies.

Before you head out this weekend, take a minute to review a few simple water safety reminders that could save a life. ❤️

➡️ Swipe through to learn the Five Layers of Protection every family should have in place around water.

💙 Designate a Water Watcher.
💙 Stay within arm’s reach of young children.
💙 Wear Coast Guard-approved life jackets around open water.
💙 Learn CPR.
💙 Remember: no single layer is enough—water safety works best when multiple layers are used together.

Have fun. Make memories. Stay safe. 🇺🇸🌊
