** UPDATE** After many long hours of trying to find the IDEAL home for Bowie, yesterday the owner decided to abruptly take him back!!
For everyone who applied and were truly concerned for his wellbeing, I thank you all!! All my year's rescuing schnauzers, this is a first. I tried to do a good deed and unfortunately this was the end result.
I / we will continue to do what we do best and focus on those who truly need our rescue help!!
PLEASE take your time to read this entire post!! Any negative comments will be removed. We strongly urge people to realize it's ALL ABOUT THE SCHNAUZER!!! We're looking for the perfect home, not judgement or negative opinions.
Meet 5 month old Bowie. He is not yet neutered because of his age but is current on all vaccines. Bowie is currently in West Seattle with his lovely owner. Bowie's new home MUST be fully EXPERIENCED and committed to taking time and care of his very high separation anxiety!! He will remain with his owner until adoption. This will lessen his stress without having to go to a foster home and then a new home. Bowie needs a non apartment life. He definitely needs a home with a totally fenced yard to run and burn off his beautiful puppy energy!!! He's currently in an apartment with his owner.
His lovely owner purchased this puppy from an unreputable breeder. After multiple attempts to reach out to the breeder, it's been a ghost type situation. Being a first time schnauzer owner, it wasn't realized how much it takes to bring in a new schnauzy puppy. He is very smart and eager to learn. But his separation anxiety literally has the owner home 24 /7. The owner has come to realize that this is not the environment he needs and although completely heartbroken, called us.
Below is the message the owner wanted us to share........
________________________
Sir Beaumont Francis or Bowie is the sweetest 4.5 month old 14lb puppy with a mischievous personality who is very smart, plus so very cute! He’s a little love bug who loves to snuggle and will put his head on your shoulder or on top of your head to show his love. When he’s in the mood, he’ll crawl into your lap for a cuddle and snooze but only when he’s ready. He enjoys lounging next to you on the back of the couch or at your feet. He will be your shadow as he craves attention and affection and often bounces on his back legs with his front paws up to let you know he wants a hug or to be picked up for a quick snuggle and kiss. He is truly a love bug.
He loves being outside in open spaces (though we avoid dog parks) to run and loves playing with other dogs of similar size and energy level and does wonderful in his puppy play sessions. He just graduated with flying colors from his West Seattle Wonder Puppy Class and received positive feedback from the trainers. His socialization has improved significantly over the past month. He is very smart and already knows many commands: sit, stay, wait, down, no, stop, come, let’s go, touch and is working on “place”, “dance trick” and “army crawl trick”. He’s very treat motivated and loves mental stimulation and training anytime of the day. He’d be great in a trick class and when older an agility training class.
He loves puppy play dates, loves to play “find it” scent game, dog puzzles with healthy treats (frozen green beans, strawberries, and dog banana chips), and loves to play chase with you.
His playful mischievous nature shows up when he likes to “steal” your sock or shoe and sometimes the tv remote and looks you in the eye, then bows and runs away wanting you to chase him. He never chews anything up though. He just wants your attention. If you say “trade” and present a high value treat, he’ll gladly relinquish whatever he’s stolen. He also likes to paw you on the arm or face when you’re not paying attention to him or scrolling on your phone. My scrolling time has diminished significantly since having him which has been a positive thing.
He always wants to be by your side whether you’re doing laundry, cooking, or other chores. The more time he can be next to you, the better for him. He isn’t a fan of being crated or left alone but with patience, positive reinforcement, and time he can become more confident and learn to self soothe.
He’d thrive in a free standing home with a fenced in yard and a dog buddy who can continue to help him build his confidence as he matures. He’s a schnauzer so barking comes naturally when he’s excited or scared. He might bark once if he hears noise outside or another dog but if you say quiet and let him know he’s safe, he’ll be calm and ignore the outside distractions. However, if you have another dog in residence who barks a lot, Bowie will chime in happily and noisily. Thus one of the main reasons he isn’t compatible with apartment living.
His leash manners definitely need more work and training but with patience and practice, he’ll be great in no time. I recommend West Seattle Wonder Dog for their puppy play and various training classes. Their trainers are kind, only use positive reinforcement, and are very supportive.
He’s continuing to be socialized and building his confidence but he can be shy and fearful of new people, things, and places. He’s treat and positive praise motivated so with calmness and patience, he’ll warm up.
He’s still teething so having appropriate chews for him will be a life saver. He loves all natural pig ears and best bully sticks and will chew on them for hours by himself giving you a bit of a break from puppy energy. He also enjoys snuffle balls and mats.
His favorite treats are Pupford freeze dried cheddar and liver treats. He loves a good chomping treat and it’s the cutest little chomps, chomps, chomps.
He’s had his first puppy desensitization grooming session of a wash and dry and paw pad trim and though he was a bit barky and shy with the groomer upon meeting, she said he was an angel and did amazing. He was happy and relaxed when I picked him up from his private one on one (no crate hold) grooming session. He still has his soft and fuzzy winter coat that requires weekly brushing to ensure no matting but will be ready for his schnauzer summer cut in May.
He is current on all his vaccinations and has a healthy physical assessment from the vet. He is too young to be neutered.
He is reusable potty pad and outdoor potty trained and if in a home with a yard, he’ll go outside all the time. He’s learned to ring the potty bell to go outside at my apartment and I’m sure would pick the bell ring up in his new home. Alternatively, he also scratches at the door to go outside though sometimes it’s just to play.
