Strangers Helping Strangers’ Share the Love Disaster Kit collection is under way, and we need your help!

For 2026, SHS is striving to always have at least 50 disaster/emergency kits on hand to give out to people in need after a house fire, flood, tornado, and other tragic events.

Blankets, hygiene items, clothes, toiletries, non-perishable foods, and small gift cards are needed.

SHS is a Highland County-based 501c3 nonprofit providing disaster/emergency kits, providing free community dinners, and coordinating community projects to help people in need in Highland County and surrounding counties.

We are operated by volunteers and fully supported by donations and fundraisers, and we have a lot planned for 2026 to help the community!

Strangers Helping Strangers would like your help to make Christmas a happier time for people in need. We will soon announce the day, time, and location for a pop-up pizza dinner and Christmas gift giveaway for children in Hillsboro. A big thank you to Emma Wachter of Hillsboro Little Caesars Pizza for donating the pizzas and breadsticks. We welcome monetary donations to purchase Christmas gifts for children of all ages. Even $10 or $20 would help. Every dollar counts. If you would like to make a monetary donation for the Christmas gift giveaway, please contact us!

Also, we welcome $25 monetary donations to sponsor 25 families to receive groceries so they can prepare Christmas dinner. This includes a four-pound turkey breast, cans of corn and green beans, a loaf of bread, a bag of potatoes, a box of Jiffy mix and a box of pudding mix. We did this for Thanksgiving and received a tremendous response!

Strangers Helping Strangers is a Highland County, Ohio-based 501c3 nonprofit that provides disaster/emergency kits for people in need, and performs community projects and provides community dinners for people in need across the region.

We are a faith-based group that believes in glorifying God with all we do. We are solely supported by donations and volunteers, and we are looking to collaborate with churches, food banks and food pantries, and other nonprofits in 2026 to address food insecurity in our area.

We're about to serve the last of the turkey, and then we'll be out of food. 75 free Thanksgiving meals served. Thank you to the Wards of Family BBQ. Strangers Helping Strangers will have a free Christmas dinner, too, and will announce plans soon. Please reach out if you would like to make a monetary donation to SHS, and/or volunteer!
